Playstation

Happy Video Games Day everyone!!  Whether you’re a fan of Nintendo, PlayStation, X-Box, Sega, mobile gaming or even retro classics like Atari or the Commodore, today is the day to shut those curtains tight, stock up on snacks and game the day away!

In celebration I’m going to list the favourite gaming moments I’ve had throughout my life and would love to hear some of your own!

This is where it all started, my first ever video game on the NES!  A truly iconic game that has stood the test of time, I’ll never forget discovering the Mushroom Kingdom for the first time.  Mario is still going strong too, every one of his games is almost guaranteed to be an exciting play!

The very first Pokemon game on the Game Boy!  Everyone had their own favourite starter (mine was Squirtle) and who can forget catching their very first Pikachu!?  There were 151 to catch in this first game (did anyone manage to get a Mew?) which seems like a tiny amount compared to the 800+ there are now!

ROUND ONE, FIGHT! My first introduction to Street Fighter was with the second game on the SNES, with only eight characters to choose from it was easy to try them all out and find your favourite, Chun-Li FTW!

The very first Mario Kart!  One of my all time favourite series, from humble beginnings on the SNES we are now up to our eighth instalment with a deluxe re-release on the Nintendo Switch which I think is the best in the series.

“Kick! Punch! It’s all in the mind” I was obsessed with this quirky PlayStation game when it first came out and have fond memories of free-style rapping over every song (usually messing it all up!)

Being a huge fan of Japanese RPGs, Final Fantasy VII came along and blew me away!  A huge expansive story and world to explore that I probably sunk 80+ hours into and probably my favourite selection of characters from the Final Fantasy world.  A remake is due to hit the PS4 in the next year or so and I can’t wait to play it again with updated graphics!

Bringing us bang up to date is the brand new Legend of Zelda game on the Nintendo Switch, possibly the finest game of the whole series (although I’ll always hold a candle to Link’s Awakening on the Game Boy!) it’s a perfect example of how exciting video games can be!

If all this talk of gaming has got your trigger finger itching for some goodies it would be well worth checking out our selection of Gamer Clothing and Gamer TShirts as well as some of the other assorted giftware we have.  We’ve got a great selection and I’ll include some of my favourites below.  Enjoy Video Games Day everyone!!

Well….we’re stunned! This doesn’t happen very often, but every once in a while we learn a cheeky fact or stat that leaves our eyes wide and our mouths open. Today is one of those days.

Yes indeediedodie, as hard and possibly scary as it might be, the humble PlayStation (or magic grey box of awesomeness as we like to think of it) turns a whopping 20 years old today! Yep all those years ago, kids and big kids all over Europe first got their eager hands on this little CD playing moment in gaming history and well…. things were never the same again.

Bringing us some of the best game ever including the likes of Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Tekken, MediEvil, Gran Theft Auto, Gran Turismo, Tony Hawks, and soooooo many more, this console has played such a huge part of many of our lives which countless hours spent and many amazing moments with friends.
.
Put simply, along with others we simply cannot imagine growing up without these little bundles of cool around and would also like to say a huge thank you to our and all the parents out there who went out and made our dreams come true all those years ago. You rock!

To help you guys celebrate this milestone in style, we’ve picked our just a few of our very favourite PlayStation T-Shirts and PlayStation Accessories including bags, coasters (that look like games!), Keyrings and so much more. Take a peep…

As 80s kids, we spent much of our childhoods living through the weird and wonderful time that was the 90s. This was a strange, mysterious and generally colourful place where you could be wowed by even the simplest things like analogue controllers, 3D gaming and even split screen gaming!

Like most teenagers in the land then and now, gaming was a huge part of our social and anti-social lives. It passed the time during school holidays and weekends, it brought friends together aaaaand probably caused the odd sibling argument over who was hogging it the most. We’ve all been there.

Doing what we like to do best, we’ve been looking back on these good old days (are we really that old already?!) and thinking up some of our biggest memories from these pixel-tastic times. Check out some of our top retro gaming memories!
.
1. When you console was one of the only things you could play music with…
Yep we’ve been there. When we first had a PS1 we were still rocking our old tape player. This might just be us being behind the times but for a lot of us, the trusty console was the newest and best thing ever and we used it for as much as we sure could.
2. Remembering passwords to get you to your current level…
Yep this might be a shock to many gamers out there but back in the day one way which consoles could get around the lack of any memory was to reveal passwords that would unlock levels. Simply enter the last password you had and you’d jump to your level….if you could remember it or find the scrap of paper you scribbled it down on.
3. Loosing the manual…
Now on the surface probably not a biggie right? But imagine you get stuck or can’t remember or figure out how to do something….with now trusty Google in your pocket or a trip to a laptop away. It’s a scary place to be people.
.
4. Running out of space on your memory card!
Okay so this was a genuine problem! You had a load of games which you had spent far too many hours playing only to find that you would have a constant battle of sacrificing that precious game data to make space for your latest conquest. It was cruel and it’s something we will never get over.
5. Playing multiplayer meant sharing the same screen.
Now this might seem obvious and perhaps trivial, it it’s a game changer! You enemies would always see exactly where you were, what your were doing and how much life you had left. Cruel.
6. Playing on a huuuuge, heavy and hot telly.
HD? HDMI? LED? Resolution? We didn’t bother ourselves with such things as long as we had a telle and it worked. Well….we actually blew one up in a puff of smoke playing Command and Conquer for about 5 hours straight. RIP.
7. Renting games…
Yep, pretty much a retro as rending tapes from your local Blockbuster, games were also up for grabs for just a few pounds a week which meant you could enjoy a whole range of games without forking out a small fortune. BUT it also meant having to return games you had yet to complete.
8. Blowing on your cartridges to get them to magically work.
Times were simple. If your game wasn’t quite booting right or wasn’t doing anything at all. A quick and frantic spit filled blast would sort any problem you could think of.
9. Trying to shoot the dog on Duck Hunt..
Because he was the worst.
10. Having games cases that no matter now careful you were, where you put them or how often you played them would always crack…
So there you have them retro gamers! Can you relate to any of these? Know any more which feller gamers would totally get? Shout out your comments bellow.

Don’t forget to check out our huge range of Gaming merchandise including PlayStation T-Shirts, Nintendo gifts Mario T-Shirts, and so much more! See you there.

Calling all you gamers! With the iconic PlayStation celebrating it’s 21 years of existence later this year (now we feel old!), this 90s legend has really been a part of all of our lives (probably) and has certainly given us more hours than we’d like to publicly admit worth of fun.

Hitting scene back in December 1994, barely a week after Sega’s rival Saturn console, PlayStation was born and has been leading the way for gaming ever since!

With some of the coolest games to its name and with a whole army of die-hard fans, we thought we would bust out another of our ‘10 Things You (Probably) Didn’t Know About..’ posts and dedicate it to this console giant.

Check out some of the awesome things we’ve pick up about this amazing brand…
.

1- The controller symbols have meanings! Yep each symbol has its unique meaning and reflects what it’s often used for. The green triangle refers to a viewpoint, ahead of the player’s head, pointing the direction. The square refers to a piece of paper; which refers to a menu or a document and is, therefore, pink. The red circle and blue X mean yes or no for decision making.
2- PlayStation was actually the result of a failed collaboration with Nintendo. Working on a new version of the SNES, complete with a CD-ROM drive, Nintendo later pulled out. Sony’s president Norio Ohga wanted to continue and even after SEGA rejected them, PlayStation was born.
3- So why the name PlayStation? In the 1980′s the Japanese used the imported English word, “Workstation” to mean an office computer. Ken Kutaragi, the father of PlayStation thought that if a computer for work is called a workstation, then a computer for play should be called a PlayStation. Simple as that!
.
4- Speaking of Ken Kuturagi, he actually earlier kicked off his video game life by designing the revolutionary SPC700 sound chip for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System!
5- The original PlayStation console was the first to sell over 100 million units. Later in 2014, the PS4 became the fastest selling console ever too, selling over 1 million in a single day! Yeeesh!
6- The best-selling game on PlayStation was the racing game Gran Turismo which sold just over 10m units, followed by Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil, Tekken 3, Tomb Raider and Crash Bandicoot.
7- Remember the old PS2 load screen? Well! You might not have spotted that the number of blocks you saw and the higher the towered depended on how many games you played and how long you played for. Spooky!
8- Spoilt for choice! There were a massive 2,418 games released for the original PlayStation!
9- All the games ever made for the original PlayStation (2,418 titles) could now fit onto just 31 PS4 game discs. They should make these!
10- The blue logo on a black console was inspired by the sight of the earth in space and it’s shape was inspired by and old Atari PC prototype.
Wowzers! So much to learn! Hopefully we’ve shown you a little more into the history and inspiration behind one of the biggest console ranger ever. So much to love about this amazing brand.

Why not add some PlayStation love to your style with our amazing range of PlayStation T-Shirts and accessories including bags, phone cases, wallets and more.

So what are your favourite PS games ever? Do you have a soft spot for the classics or a passion for the bang up to date releases? Let us know below.
