Dirty Dancing Remake? How 'Very Hollyrude'!

Leave our favourite 80's films alone! Will they ever learn?

Here at TruffleShuffle we usually have mixed opinions when it comes to classic films being remade, however this time.....it seems we are all singing from the same song sheet!

If, like us you watched Dirty Dancing at least once a month as you were growing up – you’ll join us in thought when we say this iconic film should be left well alone. They can’t re-create moments like these, and even if they could – we wouldn’t want them to!

The new film will be directed by Kenny Ortega – who was the choreographer in the original film (this can only be a good thing.....surely?),  so hopefully he will be able to recreate the smallest spark of magic that existed in the original film. Since then - he has worked with some impressive musicians - among them being Madonna and Michael Jackson.

So who will play Johnny and Baby? If we are to believe the favourites, then it looks like Justin Timberlake and Myley Cyrus may take the lead roles. What I personally love about the original, even from the Iconic 'I carried a Watermelon' moment - is how quirky Jennifer Grey appears in the film. When playing the part of Baby, she wasn't outrageously 'Hollywood' - she was the girl next door, and we loved her for it. When you add Patrick Swayze, in all his rugged glory to the mix - it instantly becomes a winning combination - that we don't think can be created again.

As with anything retro inspired – we hit the walls of Facebook to gauge the opinions of our trusty fans. Some of our favourite comments regarding the remake:

'I think the makers are wasting their money...it doesn't matter how good they make it, to the people who love the original it'll never be as good...there is no actor that be able to step into the shoes of Patrick Swayze he was, is and always will be the only Jonny Castle for me.'

'Much like a car crash, I feel I won't be able to pass this by without looking but it should never happen!! Will prob be set in the 80's to hip hop choons & Johnny (now spelt Jonni) says "I'm all up in y'alls grill bout putting ma woman in corner yo, fo shizzle" Tragic, just tragic...'

'They can remake it as many times as they want but no one will want to watch it when the original is just such a masterpiece!! It's just going to continually be compared to the original and it's never going to match up to the original so Leave well alone I say!'

The masses have spoken! At TruffleShuffle we remain (slightly) positive - maybe the new film will make us appreciate the original more - as we scream to our children 'The orignal is SO much better!' To show your maximum dedication -  keep the original movie in the social spotlight by rocking our Dirty Dancing t-shirts and accessories.
