Sunny’s Retro Christmas Gift Guide

In the words of Noddy Holder: “IT’S CHRISTMASSSSSS!”

Yes, tis the season to be jolly…so I keep telling myself. Now I’m not saying I’m Ebenezer Scrooge mark II but these past few years I’ve been more “bah humbug” than “ho ho ho”. Despite my lack of enthusiasm for the holidays recently, I still uphold the jolly tradition of giving Christmas presents (as well as watching Christmas TV/films) - see I’m no Scrooge!

Since us Wardrobe girls became friends back at Uni, we’ve been giving presents every year and this year is no different. Buying lots of Christmas presents can be an extremely stressful task especially when you’re tackling the high street crowds (raging much?). Oh lets not forget the impact it can have on your bank balance- bad times.

Here at Wardrobe we like to set a budget for our gifts which makes it a lot easier. How awkward would it be if you bought someone a gift for a fiver and they spent say fifty quid on yours! We also love to do ‘Secret Santa’ which means everyone in the group gets at least one decent present each and your bank balance doesn’t suffer much.

Every year, finding presents gets tougher and tougher but this year the guys over at TruffleShuffle may just have saved me from having a mini-breakdown. Their gift section has got bigger and definitely better. Also their new online gift finder is a godsend. Just to prove how immense the collection is I’ve put together a little retro gift guide to hopefully give you some ideas.

I’ve split it into three categories: ‘This is for Lovers’ is for the love of your life, ‘Working 9-5’ for your work colleagues and ‘Just Friends’ which is quite obvious. I’ve chosen 3 items for each category: under £10, under £15 and under £20. How nice am I ay?! However, you can mix and match these gifts for any of the categories; such is the beauty of retro gifts. Love it.

This is for Lovers

Whether it is a Christmas gift for your girlfriend, boyfriend, wife or husband, TruffleShuffle have lots of gifts that would certainly impress your loved one. The Love Hearts Tea Lights are a steal at £4.99- a great stocking filler. Also how about this black retro Casio watch for the man in your life for just £17.50? Too cool.

Girls: Love Hearts Tea Lights, Betty Boop mirror and make up bag set and Scrabble love charm bracelet from Bits and Bows.

Boys: Retro cassette tape cufflinks, Superman apron and Classic black watch from Casio.

Working 9-5

Buying a Christmas gift for a work colleague can be tricky especially if you don’t know them that well. But in my opinion you can’t go wrong with these retro gifts. The Rubik’s cube notepad block would add a touch of cool to any desk. And we all know Christmas doesn’t start until you see the Coca-Cola commercial so how about this ‘Coca-Cola Holidays are coming’ tee for men? Even I can’t resist getting a warm feeling when I see that advert for the first time!

Girls: Little Miss Chatterbox mug, Wonder Woman Vacuum flask and Frankie Says Relax ladies tee.

Boys: Rubik’s cube notepad block, Pac-Man alarm clock and Coca-Cola Holidays are coming men’s tee.

Just Friends

I’m sure your friends would love you even more if you bought them any of these gifts- I know I would! Like I said I love watching Christmas TV and like the Coca-Cola advert, Christmas isn’t Christmas without some Only Fools and Horses. I love these playing cards featuring Del Boy and his catchphrase “he who dares, wins”-perfect for a cheeky card game over Christmas. Also I don’t know any girl who does not LOVE the film Clueless. We (Wardrobe) heart this film so I had to include this t-shirt. Whatever!

Girls: Retro TV picture frame, Rolling Stones tongue charm necklace from Bits and Bows and Clueless ladies tee.

Boys: Only Fools and Horses playing cards, The Goonies retro sketch wash bag and Ghostbusters logo lounge pants.

These were just a few of the items I picked out but trust me it was a tough task as there are so many wicked gifts available. I wish I could buy them all- le sigh!

Well as I try to get my Christmas spirit back all that’s left from me is to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
