Guest Post: Rock Chick vs Geek Chic

Just before Christmas, me and fellow blogger Emily Jayne were discussing our favourite TruffleShuffle 80's t-shirts, as you do. It was interesting to see how although we had similar tastes our personal style is so different. So whereas I was more ‘rock chick’, Emily was more ‘geek chic’.

That’s the beauty of TruffleShuffle, there is something for everyone. Whether you grew up listening to your favourite punk rock band or watching Neighbours, there is a t-shirt to bring back those good memories!

We thought we’d embrace our individual styles by joining forces for a ‘Rock Chick vs Geek Chic’ photo-shoot, picking a TruffleShuffle tee to take you from day to night. Choosing a t-shirt from TruffleShuffle is always hard because there is SO much choice but in the end I chose a David Bowie t-shirt and Emily a She-Ra Tee. Very fitting for our themes!

For my day look I wore my Bowie tee with some leather look trousers, cowboy boot heels, a camouflaged army jacket and my wolf Spirithood (it kept my head nice and warm)!

For my night-time outfit I just tucked my t-shirt into a leopard print jacquard skirt and swapped my cowboy boots for studded heels. I did have to wrap myself up in a black faux fur coat though as it was freezing! And it wouldn’t be a ‘Rock Chick’ look without the obligatory red lipstick.

I’ll let Emily explain her outfit choices to you:

When I was asked to demonstrate a geek chic tee that could be styled from day to night, I was pretty overwhelmed by the choice! TruffleShuffle just has so much nerd-worthy stuff to choose from, this geek girl found herself in a bit of a quandary. Should I go comic book? Sci fi? In the end I thought I'd hark back to my childhood and selected a fabulous She-Ra T-Shirt, because she was a hero of mine, and who doesn't want the chance to be a princess of power? I also liked the fact that I had loads of colours to choose from - I don't really wear black as I have a pretty colourful wardrobe, yet so many cool tees are only available in black.

For the day look I teamed my She Ra tee with a cobalt blue jersey pencil skirt, a denim jacket, some cutesy heart print tights, and comfy sheepskin lined boots.

I then decided to play up the red aspects of the tee for the evening look by layering it over a red dress with a fabulously floofy skirt, and added a bit of sparkle with gold glitter tights, belt and shoes. I finished off the look with a bow hairband, as I think if you're going girly you may as well go whole hog, and a little faux fur jacket.

The shoot was so much fun, it was great to mess about with Sunny in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter!”

Like Emily mentioned, the shoot was so much fun to do but the best bit was styling our Truffleshuffle t-shirts. We would both love to thank the lovely Pete from Pete Sloan Photography in Birmingham who generously agreed to photograph us.

We picked a really cold day (In Decemeber, never!) so we appreciated him hanging around waiting for us to doll ourselves up! Also once again thank you to Truffleshuffle who are always totally awesome and supportive.

How would you have styled the t-shirts? Let us know!

xoxo
