Classic Coca-Cola Ads Through The Ages

It's no secret...we LOVE Coca-Cola! For as long as we can remember, Coke has always been a part of our lives, be it as a super special treat as a kid, right up to now where it's the first port of call when out for a meal, at a fast food joint (like the cool kids), cinema or actually here at Truffle Towers where we have a fridge full the the brim of the sweet stuff!

I'm sure we're not the only ones out there who have a cheeky Coke as one of the simple pleasures in life. To celebrate possibly one of the biggest and best brands ever...(much like we did with the Levi's ads post), we thought we would take a tasty trip down memory lane and have a look back at some of the classic TV Coca-Cola Adverts and see if they fire up your fizzy memory. Take a peep....

Beach - 1963

Campaign: "Things Go Better with Coke"

It was in 1963 that Coca-Cola started using the slogan "Things Go Better with Coke." Advertising agency McCann-Erickson worked with popular acts at the time to create musical jingles utilizing the slogan. This campaign also saw a huge number of jingles reworked from popular sings of the time which were also played all over the radio in advertising slots. Not surprisingly, people loved it! Not sure it would work these day on us cynical bunch though. What do you think?

Hilltop - 1971

Campaign: "It's The Real Thing"

This classic advert was released a cool 42 years ago in the summer of 1971 and became an instant success in the US. Now, we remember it as one of Coca-Cola’s best-loved commercials with it's inspiring group-themed nature and catch tune. It was actually ranked by ITV as one of the top 10 ads of all time!

Northen Lights - 1993

Campaign: "Always Coca-Cola" (try and say it without singing it!)

The original polar bear commercial from 1993 has inspired subsequent versions including the one from last year if you remember. The original was created by freelance writer and director Ken Stewart’s yellow Labrador and took 12 weeks to complete. Polar bears have definitely emerged themselves in to Coke’s identity along with Haddon Sundblom’s Santa Claus illustration from the 30′s which periodically can be seen on their packaging during the holidays.

Holidays Are Coming - 2006

Campaign:

For many (like us) Seeing this commercial on TV really marks the start of Christmas. Everyone know it REALLY IS Christmas as soon as they see the classic big red truck rolling over the hill. With a catch tune and amazing festive theme and sound, it's really hard to imagine a Christmas without this hearing  it's way through the house on a cold wintry night. So much so in fact and well-loved is this ad, that when it was pulled, people phoned Coca-Cola and the TV stations directly asking it to be re-aired to mark the start of Christmas.

The Happiness Factory - 2007

Campaign: "The Coke Side of Life"

Ever wondered what happens when you slide those coins into the venting machine? Where does the money go? Where does it come from? WELL! To help drive your eager imaginations wild, Coca-Cola decided to show us what they think happens by releasing this amazing little ad that shows the journey of your Coke before it sees the light of day and you can 'lucky tap' and open that sucker. We love this one.

Happiness Machine - 2010

Campaign: "Open Happiness"

The brief was to create something unexpected, relatable, emotional and watchable. It also had to be executed cheaply and go viral, without paid media. Impressive! Maybe the insanely huge branding and social media channels gave this a good kick-start, but credit where credit is due, it's a simple but effective clip.

AAAAND that's all folks! I hope you enjoyed out little trip down memory lane as much as we did. If you feel like showing off some of your own love the the classic brand, check out our amazing range of exclusive Coca-Cola T-Shirts today.
