10 Things You [Probably] Didn't Know About...Star Wars

Much like the ever-expanding universe (probably), we love to broaden our horizons and cram-pack our little busy minds full of cool facts, trivia, and insights into some of our all-time favourite films and shows. SO! to continue our ongoing quest for knowledge, we decided to dive into the weird and wonderful world of Star Wars and pluck out some cool things we find along the way to show you.

Setting comfortably? Star Wars TShirt on? Let's begin!

It took an impressive 6 puppeteers to operate Jabba The Hutt!

Most stormtroopers are shown to be left-handed because of the construction of their blaster rifles. Based on a real weapon, the magazine would have hit the troopers in their chest because of the design. Therefore, they had to switch grips, which might explain why they're all such terrible shots!

SPOILER ALERT! The shots where Luke uses his Jedi powers to retrieve his lightsabers from a distance are actually done by having Mark Hamill throw the lightsaber away, and then running the film in reverse. Watch for it.

Luke Skywalker Laugh

"Luke, I am your father" is never spoken once. It's actually "No, I am your father."

Chewbacca's speech was a combination of recordings of lions, camels, rabbits, tigers, badgers and walruses, with a major contribution from a black bear named Tarik from a zoo in San Jose. Damn nature...you scary!

Return of the Jedi was originally titled Revenge of the Jedi - but later underwent a title change, due to the fact that, according to Lucas, A Jedi would never take revenge.

During The Empire Strikes Back's famous asteroid scene, two of the deadly, hurling asteroids is actually... a potato and a shoe!

The original draft for the opening of Star Wars read "A long, long time ago, in the not-too-distant future…" until someone pointed out that this was technically impossible.

The iconic sounds for the LightSabers were recorded by a combination of the hum of idling interlock motors in aged movie projectors and moving a microphone next to a TV set.

Darth Vader was actually played by three different people; David Prowse (body), James Earl Jones (voice) et Sebastian Shaw (face)

So there you have it, folks, hopefully, you've had fun and perhaps learnt a few things along the way. Stay tuned for more Did you Know? features to come covering and uncovering some of our favourite retro films tv shows, and more!
