Are you as big a fan of the troublesome, adventurers Wallace and Gromit as we are?? Then this could be right up your street….literally!
Yes an amazing 80 creatively decorated, 5ft tall statues of one of our all-time favourite TV dogs Gromit have been carefully placed all around our hometown of Bristol as part of a fund raising effort. These have all been carefully designed by some pretty big names including the likes of Sir Quentin Blake, Cath Kidston, One Direction’s Zayn Malik, The Beano and TV’s Harry Hill!
Gromit Unleashed, which has been organised by Aardman Animations and the Bristol Children’s Hospital charity – Wallace & Gromit’s Grant Appeal – will run for just 10 weeks. These amazing sculptures have been sponsored by many local businesses and will be auctioned off after the event on October 3rd to raise money for the Children’s Hospital. Much like the gorilla statues in 2011 which raised about £500,000 for charity, we really hope to see even more interest and are so pleased to see the cheeky chappies around the city every day.
I even get to walk past this amazing one every day at Temple Meads train station. Always makes me smile…
Nick Park, creator of the Oscar-winning animated characters said: “To see him this massive is incredible. I always thought Gromit would make it big, but not like this,””I was quite worried, because I’m quite fussy about Gromit, and I didn’t know if he would make a very good blank canvas for the artists to work on. But I think I am more just honoured that he is being used.”
