The Weekly Retro Movie Rundown 104

Lucha Libre! is it the weekend?

So on the side of a lush green sunny hill amongst  the boroughs and beside a few oddly looking trees. Let us be your colony of mischievous wild rabbits as we go bouncing and bounding about for retro movie magic we'll dig many holes looking for the cinematic greatness before we  get all tuckered out and curl up in a soft fluffy ball of celluloid wonder.

SATURDAY 21st JUNE

Flipper (1996) ITV2 12:50pm-2:40pm (1 hour 50 minutes)

A lonely city youngster is packed off to spend the summer with his uncle in the Florida Keys. However, his enforced vacation looks set to be a holiday to remember when he forms an unlikely friendship with a dolphin. Adventure based on the classic TV series, starring Elijah Wood, Paul Hogan and Isaac Hayes.

Big Daddy (1999) 5* 5:05pm-7:00pm (1 hour 55 minutes)

An immature 32-year-old is heartbroken when his girlfriend walks out on him. In a plan to win her back, he volunteers to look after his flatmate's five-year-old son, thus demonstrating he is finally ready to grow up. However, his ideas of childcare prove unconventional and chaos quickly ensues. Comedy, with Adam Sandler, Joey Lauren Adams, Jon Stewart, Josh Mostel, Leslie Mann, Rob Schneider and Kristy Swanson, alongside Steve Buscemi in a cameo role.

Wayne's World (1992) E4 9:00pm-11:00pm (2 hours)

Two heavy-metal fans broadcast an amateur TV programme from their basement. A slimy network executive offers them the chance to turn professional, but as they enjoy the perks of wealth and fame, they find their show being ruined by corporate interference. Comedy, starring Mike Myers, Dana Carvey, Rob Lowe, Tia Carrere and Lara Flynn Boyle, with a cameo by Alice Cooper

FUN FACT: In the early '70s, some British music shops banned or fined patrons for playing "Stairway to Heaven" because it was played so often. Hence the sign: "No 'Stairway to Heaven'" when Wayne plays the guitar in the store.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) ITV4 10:00pm-12:25am (2 hours 25 minutes)

A reckless sports writer and his lawyer hit the highways in search of the American Dream, heading for the Nevada gambling capital in a convertible stocked with alcohol and drugs. Drama, adapted by Terry Gilliam from Hunter S Thompson's book, starring Johnny Depp, Benicio Del Toro, Ellen Barkin, Christina Ricci and Tobey Maguire.

The 'Burbs (1989) ITV4 12:30pm-2:30pm (2 hours)

The arrival of secretive neighbours sparks an unhealthy curiosity in a group of friends, leading them to go to bizarre lengths to discover the truth about the newcomers. However, their investigations take an even weirder twist when they begin to suspect their unseen fellow suburbanites are part of a cannibalistic cult. Joe Dante's black comedy, starring Tom Hanks, Bruce Dern, Carrie Fisher, Corey Feldman and Henry Gibson.

Scooby-Doo (2002) ITV2 5:30pm-7:15pm (1 hour 45 minutes)

The hapless hound and his chums reunite after a bitter break-up to solve a baffling mystery in ghost-themed tourist resort Spooky Island, whose owner is convinced he has a genuine haunting on his hands. Live-action comedy adventure based on the cartoon series, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, Freddie Prinze Jr, Linda Cardellini and Rowan Atkinson.

Turner & Hooch (1989) E4 8:00pm-10:05pm (2 hours 5 minutes)

A Californian detective investigating the murder of a local man by drug smugglers has only one witness to help him solve the case - the large, smelly dog that belonged to the victim, and which is about to turn the detective's well-ordered existence into chaos. Family comedy, starring Tom Hanks, Mare Winningham and Craig T Nelson. FUN FACT: Hooch is a Dogue de Bordeaux, one of the most ancient French breeds.

National Lampoon's European Vacation (1985) ITV4 10:05pm-12:00am (1 hour 55 minutes)

The disaster-prone Griswolds unexpectedly win the top prize on a TV game show and set off on an epic holiday across Europe, taking in the sights and sounds and leaving a trail of chaos in their wake. Comedy sequel, starring Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, Jason Lively and Dana Hill.
