Classic Films You (Hopefully) Didn't Know Were Remakes….

Calling all you movie buffs! If like us you love going a little further with some of your favourite films, whether that means doing your research, buying the Blu Ray special metal case edition with every deleted scene going or perhaps just picking up a movie t-shirt from you know who, then you'll be sure to love what we've got in store for you right here!

We've been doing a little digging around online and research of our own and have picked out some of our top films and their older brothers and sisters who you might not have known about in our... Classic Films You (Hopefully) Didn't Know Where Remakes!

Take a peep at what we're found and let us know what you think...

.

The Departed

Voted as one of the best remakes ever, Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning The Departed was a remake of Infernal Affairs (or original title Mou gaan dou) which was released 4 years earlier in 2002. The film picked up four Academy Awards - Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film Editing - while Wahlberg was nominated for Best Supporting Actor and has taken on a life of its own far away from its Hong Kong based original. If you haven't seen this...get on it!

Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey

Such a classic tale! (no animal tail related pun intended of course). Released back in 1963 and simply called The Incredible Journey, this original (which was also based on a best-selling novel by Sheila Burnford) also follows three pets, a cat and two dogs, who lose their owners when they are all on vacation. Unlike the 90s classic we all know, this first film simply had a single narrator rather than giving the animals each their own voice. Well worth a watch on an easy Sunday afternoon.

.

Ocean's 11

Released back in 1960, the original flick followed Danny Ocean as he gathers a group of his World War II compatriots to pull off the ultimate Las Vegas heist. Much like the 2001 star laden counterpart, together the eleven friends Danny plans to rob five Las Vegas casinos in one night with each member of his team bringing something new to the party. We love these and obviously so did you guys as the modern adaptions came back for another two sequels!

.

Scarface

Now, anyone who is anyone will know the Al Pachino movie magic that was the 1983 gangsta classic by Brian De Palma! But perhaps not everyone will know that this iconic flick that became a cult phenomenon actually started life way back in 1932. The original, which takes place in Chicago instead of Miami, ends the same way as the remake, with both Scarfaces dying spectacularly under the words, “The World is Yours.” Spoiler alert! Sorry :)

The Fly

Now movie hero Jeff Goldblum has starred in many big blockbusters over the years from Jurassic Park to Independence Day, but to us at least, he'll forever be remembered for his very first performance as an eccentric scientist in David Cronenberg's amazing 1086 remake of the 1958 horror The Fly! This remake 30 years later is significantly different to the original film, and therefore to the original story (by Langelaan), although it still retains the same basic premise. Both amazing and both well worth a watch we'd say with the original taking more advantage of the 80's trend of horror and gore. Love it!

.

Mr Deeds

Now we really didn't know this one and were actually amazed. BUT! Adam Sandler's 2002 remake of much younger 1936 film Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (simply called Mr. Deeds) also follows the story of Longfellow Deeds, a sweet-natured, small-town guy inherits a controlling stake in a media conglomerate and begins to do business his way. Both fairly light-hearted comedy films, totally worth a watch and we're tempted to watch the classic just to see an older twist on a cool film.

.

The Taking of Pelham 123

Originally called The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, the 1974 classic also follows the story of when armed men hijack a subway car and demand a ransom for the passengers. Doing anything they can to get their hands on the dosh. Not having seen the classic film we're sure this story alone warrants a watch so we'll surely be adding this to our list.

.

So there you have them folks! Did you know any of these already? Can you think of any more remakes that are perhaps lesser known? Shout them out by leaving a comment below.

Thanks!
