|What should we do next: Something good, something bad? Bit of both?|
|Groot, put your seatbelt on, Guardians 2 is about to land in the cinema!
It has been 3 year (2014) since Marvel delivered Guardians on the Galaxy to us…and we have been waiting for the sequel ever since.
The original was a runaway success and showed that you don’t need the firepower of Iron Man or the strength of Hulk to deliver a comic masterpiece.
After 3 sleepless years of waiting Marvel will deliver the sequel to the UK on April 28, 2017 (which happens to be a full week before the US).
WHO IS BACK FOR ROUND 2?
Guardians Vol 2 is set two months after the first instalment and sees Chris Pratt back as Star-Lord (Peter Quill), Zoe Saldana return as Gamora, Vin Diesel as the voice of Baby Groot, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, plus who could forget Rocket voiced by Bradley Cooper.
Other characters back for round 2 include Karen Gillian as Nebula and Michael Rooker as Yondu.
WHAT ABOUT NEW CHARACTERS?
Well for starters how about Kurt Russell as “Ego the Living Planet”, and Sylvester Stallone!?!
Big star name dropping aside we have Pom Klementieff joining the crew as the psychic called Mantis, and Tommy Flanagan (from Sons of Anarchy) joining the cast.
WHAT ABOUT THE MUSIC?
Firstly it is going to take some musical power tracks to compete with the soundtrack to Volume 1, which topped the downloads chart!
Rather than say anything about it…..here is the soundtrack for you to admire:
ELO – ‘Mr. Blue Sky’
Sweet – ‘Fox on the Run’
Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah – ‘Lake Shore Drive’
Fleetwood Mac – ‘The Chain’
Sam Cooke – ‘Bring it On Home to Me’
Glen Campbell – ‘Southern Nights’
George Harrison – ‘My Sweet Lord’
Looking Glass – ‘Brandy You’re a Fine Girl’
Jay and the Americans – ‘Come a Little Bit Closer’
Silver – ‘Wham Bang Shang-A-Lang’
Cheap Trick – ‘Surrender’
Yusuf / Cat Stevens – ‘Father and Son’
Parliament – ‘Flashlight’
The Sneepers featuring David Hasselhoff – ‘Guardians Inferno’
WHAT’S THE PLOT?
We don’t know a lot about the plot from the trailer…but what we do know is:
– Peter Quill will be exploring his relationship with his father.
– Nebula will be back with a vengeance….and maybe some emotion.
– Groot will return as Baby Groot.
GEARING UP FOR THE MOVIE?
What more can we say other than we hope you enjoy the movie, and feel free to let us know how it was for you on Twitter, Facebook or right here.
Being the in-house cinema nut (and a little bit of a Star Wars fan) I decided to don some of our Star Wars merchandise, specifically one of our Rogue One TShirts and head to the cinema on release day.

*Warning contains some spoilers*
Let’s start at the beginning……or at Episode 3.9 (depending on where you think it fits). The story of Rogue One comes courtesy of the opening crawl to the original 1977 Star Wars film.
Below are the lines taken from the original opening…….just in case you haven’t watched the original in a while, if you are too young to remember, or just simply never watched Star Wars.
|“It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire.
During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the Death Star, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet.”
Rogue One sits itself nicely into a gap between Episode III (Revenge of the Sith) and Episode IV (A New Hope), with the opening sequence being set at the end of Episode III. Here we are introduced to Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen), an Imperial Science Engineer who was working on a top secret project. Whilst working on this project, which happens to be the first Death Star, his conscience gets the better of him leading him to live on the secluded planet of Lah’mu with his wife Lyra and daughter Jyn.
As expected the Empire come to get their engineer back…..where the decision is not optional. Galen is taken away to continue his work, his wife Lyra is shot dead and Jyn runs and hides to a safe location to be rescued by Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker).
This sets the baseline for Rogue One to center around the relationship between Jyn and her father Galen.
We then flash into the future, where Jyn (Felicity Jones) has become an adult and the atmosphere changes to give you the action of a Star Wars film.
During this part of the film we get to meet the rest of the cast, Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) a Rebel intelligence officer, Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed) a defected Imperial Pilot, K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) a witty reprogrammed Imperial Droid, Chirrut Inwe (Donnie Yen) a blind force believer, and Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen) who has a very big gun.
Between them all they bring something to the party, they are all likeable characters but we just don’t get to know much about them or their back stories.
With this team working together we get to see a group of people fighting for a common cause, in a way that the Star Wars franchise hasn’t shown us before. You get a real feeling that the rebellion leadership is struggling, disorganised and has internal turmoil when up against the organised and terrifying Empire. You get to see a group of people that take action in a situation where there is no other option available.
Thrown into Rogue One are beautiful visuals and incredibly realistic planets, vehicles and fight sequences. With trips to the planets of Jedha (the home of the Jedi), Lah’mu (a baron planet where the Erso’s were hiding), Eadu (a refinery planet) and Scarif (a tropical planet that contains something key to the story).
When you get to the planet of Scarif you are immersed in a world of action, suspense and incredible fight scenes.
One surprising thing to see in Rogue One is the full CGI creation of Imperial Officer Grand Moff Tarkin (Peter Cushing), where the actor has been dead for over 20 years. It is a wonderful thing to see however it is slightly creepy.
Another character is given a full CGI creation too…..however I will leave that one for you to find out.
Overall it was a very good film to use as a blueprint for future Star Wars movies. It contains action, excitement, a link to the characters and overall it has a different feel that will appeal to a larger audience. There is a little bit of humour thrown in by K-2SO who seems to have had his filter removed, making for interesting quips and the spot of needed relief.
It also isn’t your typical “Hero” story, not everyone gets to be celebrated and there isn’t always a way home.
“Rogue One: a Star Wars Story” scores a strong 4 / 5 star rating!
So have you seen this epic new adventure yet? If so what did you think? Let us know below.
P.S. We had a little bit of a bonus at the cinema…….
The name’s not Bond, James Bond may be one of the most famous introductions ever, but this time it is Scott talking to you, and I have to say that I am a bit of a Bond fan.
Not only have I read the novels and seen all the movies, but I have also bought the T-Shirt………..more specifically I bought one from our cheeky new range of James Bond TShirts.
To give you a bit of a history lesson (and you thought school was over?), the very first outing for 007 was in the 1953 novel “Casino Royale” by the legend Ian Fleming, this was followed in quick succession with a book a year until 1966.
Amongst these stories are some iconic names of villains and assistants we all know and love including the likes of…. Le Chiffre, Rosa Klebb, Francisco Scaramanga, Nick Nack, Max Zorin, Hugo Drax, Ernst Blofeld, Odd Job, Jaws and Pussy Galore (although she did switch sides).
Our friends at the always cool Chunk Clothing have taken some of these villains and showcased them into an awesome new range of alternative T-Shirts. Take a look!
If you aren’t a fan of villains it’s ok! We also have a few other choices to spark your 007 passion. For example we have the classic submersible Lotus Espirit (used in The Spy Who Loved Me) ready to go, along with a subtle nod to Emilio Largo’s super ship (from the novel and film Thunderball), or if you just want to trump your friends we have the 007 Top Trumps card game.
I hope you enjoyed our little bit of 007 heaven! Until next time…….
Surround yourself with human beings, my dear James (Ian Fleming, Casino Royale).

|GENRE||Family, Adventure, Fantasy|

|RELEASE DATE||15th April 2016|
I’m back again! Okay so I might be a bit of a film addict……..but there’s nothing wrong with that right????
The only thing that may have been a little bit over the top was wearing some of our Jungle Book merchandise to the cinema!?!?!
I have also been slow at writing blog posts lately (because we have a surprise to reveal in a few weeks time) oh and of course I love Iain’s amazing baking, so much so I gave him top marks.
So back to the film, Jungle Book has been out for a few weeks now and I was lucky enough to see it on the day of release.
One of the first things I have to say is that you should forget about your worries when you go to see this movie, it has all the markings of a future classic, and will leave you wanting to watch it over again.
What about the Human Cast?
The way in which it blends real life with impeccable animation is done in such a seamless manner, it will leaving you thinking that a talking tiger and a gangster Gigantopithecus (an extinct species of the ape family) are a natural occurrence.
Neel Sethi’s performance was both uplifting and believable throughout the entire movie. At one point Mowgli and Baloo sing the timeless classic Bare Necessities in such a fun and “normal” manner, you clearly feel that it was sang naturally and not dressed up in any way.
What about the Animated Cast?
The quality and realism of the computer generated animals is amazing, it will have you wondering whether Jon Favreau went back in time, sat with a Gigantopithecus down and taught him how to become the godfather!
Time to close the book.
It has been 122 years since the publication of Rudyard Kipling’s classic. The Jungle Book is light, breezy, and optimistic and on a technical note a marvel of film-making. This is a clearly going to be a future children’s classic which is shown by the care given to every detail. Just a final note that if you are taking very young eyes to see this, Sheer Khan is quite a scary tiger.
TruffleShuffle gives it 4 Chunks out of 5.
