Easter Eggstravaganza Friday Comp (and Saturday, Sunday, Monday)!

We’re renowned for our Friday Comps at Truffle Towers, but no-one’s working this Friday so we won’t be around to pick a lucky winner. Therefore in the spirit of Easter generosity, we’re going to hold a four day long competition, with the normal prize of a £25 gift voucher bolstered with an eggcellent Simpsons Easter Egg kindly donated by the lovely Amy, who is sunning herself on holiday in Thailand and therefore wasn’t able to claim the egg that has been sitting on her desk for the past four days. Aren’t we kind!

It’s as easy as 1-2-3… here’s how to enter this week’s comp…

1. Go to our website and count how many t-shirts have a bunny or a rabbit, or even the word “Rabbit” on them…

2. Times this by the number of Egg Cups we sell on our website…

3. And finally times this number by the number of Eggstra-Large (XL) t-shirts we will sell over the easter weekend (00:00 Friday 29th March – 23:59 Monday 1st April).

When you’ve guessed your total, enter it in the comments box below this blog post and whoever is the closest will be our lucky winner who we’ll announce on Tuesday afternoon!

Good luck!

Only one entry per person will be counted
Prize money is non–transferable and there is no cash alternative
If we do not hear back from our winner within 2 days, we will pick the 2nd place.
By entering, you agree that you are totally awesome and we love you

Pat Sharp Talks Twins, TV and T-Shirts!

February 1989 will be remembered for a number of interesting reasons. The Soviet army withdrew its last troops from occupied Afghanistan; Sky TV launched in Europe; Salman Rushdie had a $3m bounty placed on his head and the first GPS satellite was launched into space.

But here at Truffle Towers, the big news of February 1989 was the launch of the best kids TV game show that has ever been! Set in a zany obstacle course, Fun House delighted us young telly addicts with it’s fast paced Grand Prix, gungey games and the tag hunt finale around the house.

Fun House became an immediate hit, propelling it’s host Pat Sharp into TV stardom.  Pat hosted each of the 146 episodes of the show’s 11 year run and has since appeared on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Come Dine With Me and I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out O Here!, famously messing with Lorraine Chase’s teddy and causing “Tedwardgate”.

Today, Pat hosts the afternoon show on national Smooth Radio, runs an online presenter academy (www.presenteracademy.co.uk) and spins his wheels of steel DJing at events all over the world.

We’re lucky enough to work directly with Pat on our range of Pat Sharp T-Shirts and Fun House T-Shirts and thought you TruffleShufflers would be as interested as we were to hear some of Pat’s memories of working in kids TV in the 80s and 90s.

TS: Let’s get the obvious questions asked first Pat… What was the best and worst thing about owning such an impressive mullet?

PS: I think the best thing about the mullet was the fact that twenty years later, people still remember it and talk about it! Not many people can say that their haircut from the 80’s is still a talking point!
The worst thing about the mullet… I suppose it would be that I ever considered it attractive!

Pat Sharp's Mullet

TS: Are you and the twins still friends? What are they doing now?

PS: Yes, we’re very much still friends, I saw them three weeks ago for lunch with their partners and kids and I’m seeing them again on Friday at a gig. Martina works for cosmetics company Clarins, and Melanie works at a motor traders in Kent.

TS: When the cameras stopped rolling, did you ever do the Fun House Grand Prix or run around the Fun House?

PS: Alas, no. We didn’t really do anything in the Fun House. We wanted the kids in the audience to see it as a kids place, and having us in there would spoil that image – it would look odd with adults in there! The camera crew were the only adults allowed into the Fun House when the audience was present.
Saying that, we would often use the ball pool as a rest area,  and I do remember having a kip in there every now and then!

Fun House TV Show

TS: TruffleShuffle customer Denise Rolls would like to know if you could gunge one person, who would it be and why?

PS: It would have to be Noel Edmonds – he’s gunged enough people in his time! He looks far too coiffured on Deal Or No Deal and needs a good gunging!

TS: Is there any truth in the rumours that have been circulating for years about Fun House being brought back and if so, would you want to front it?

PS: Yes, there is truth in the rumours, TV companies are considering it. I’d like to see an adult or celebrity version. The twins and I probably wouldn’t front it, at least in the same guise as before, but we’d all definitely be keen on a cameo role – maybe we should be the caretakers of the Fun House!
The biggest problem is that nowadays, the show would never pass Health & Safety rules. I remember we had go-kart crashes and sometimes you’d see kids standing around in agony with us trying to continue the show as normal!

Quickfire round…

TS: What was your favourite TV show as a kid?

PS: Catweazle or Here Come The Double Deckers

TS: Apart from our impressive collection of Pat Sharp T-Shirts, what one t-shirt would you most like from TruffleShuffle.com?

PS: It would have to be this A-Team T-Shirt

TS: What superhero would you most like to be?

PS: Batman – but it would have to be the original Adam West Batman – he had the best outfit and I had one as a kid!

Massive thanks to Pat for taking the time to answer our questions. It gave me a great excuse to watch a couple of old episodes of Fun House on YouTube! We really do hope the show makes a come back, and we look forward to the original three housekeepers making their cameo appearances!

And a final congratulations to Pat – today is his 27th wedding anniversary!

Talk Ti-mmy! We catch up with the legendary Timmy Mallett…

School holidays were supposed to be about lie-ins and staying in bed until lunchtime, but this dream was shattered in 1985 when the alarm clock had to be set for 8:45am in order to hit the sofa for the 8:50am start of Wacaday.

Oringinally co-presenting the Saturday morning show Wide Awake Club, Wacaday gave Timmy Mallett the chance to shine in the zaniest way possible, and within days of the first show being aired (which coincidentally was the same week Timmy turned 30), us 80s kids were hooked on this utterly brilliant show!

25 years after those good ole Wac-a-days, Timmy remains a legendary character. His thirty year career started out as a radio presenter (in charge of a team including Chris Evans and Brian Cox) before presenting various TV shows, singing a number one hit single, appearing on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!, performing in a couple of pantos and more recently enjoying the limelight of being a very successful artist.

We have the pleasure of working with Timmy on our range of Mallett’s Mallet T-Shirts and thought you TruffleShufflers might want to know the same things we’ve wanted to know all these years…

TS: So Timmy, we love your fabulously daring sense of fashion in particular those crazy glasses you wear! Which are your all-time favourites?

TM: I have squillions of pairs of spex. Lots were made specially for my TV shows and hit records! The Eiffel Tower, the mad skier, the Olympic rings, The Wacaday spex and the big Mallett’s Mallet pair.  I have the pink cadillac spex and the Itsy Bitsy spex with palm trees! Wild, and  I love ’em all. I have a pair in my studio at the moment that I spent the morning painting. I’ve attached toys and buttons to them and they will be on my face at my next show!

Timmy Mallett's Glasses

TS: There were a lot of crazy moments on Wacaday! What is your funniest memory of the show?

TM: I loved it when we had the occasional guest star on the show – Jason and Kylie playing Mallett’s Mallet was fun. It was always great to go on travels around the World with the Mallet and see the way kids everywhere enjoyed the fun of the show.

I loved the way Magic the cockatiel would fly around the studio and land on the the camera with his tail in shot. The cameramen would get nervous in case he left a little present on their heads!

Wacaday Clips

TS: We love your cute companion, Pinky Punky, but whatever became of him? Are you still in touch? What is he doing now? Has he found love?

TM: Pinky Punky – the little Mallet who popped up to shout out the address – “Wacaday….blah blah Blah, London NW1 8TQ!!!!!!” and “Mr Mallett, I’m so excited can I got to the toilet!”  He was our little audience, and often the props guy would use a water pistol to wee all over the place!  Pinky Punky has a girl friend – Hanky Panky and the good news is you can get your very own Pinky Punky Mallet now and keep him to remind you of the happiest days of your life!  You’re never too old to be a kid again!

Malletts Mallet

TS: Who’s your most famous fan?

TM: Mrs Thatcher  wanted to be hit on the head by the Mallet, Tony Blair’s family came to panto so they could look at each other and go BLAAAH; Princess Diana loved watching Wacaday with Princes William and Harry; Gary Barlow invited me to sing Itsy Bitsy at his wedding anniversary – Dawn was one of my itsy bitsy girls; and Simon Cowell used to plug records to our show.  Shall I carry on?

TS: No, Timmy, that’s enough to put a smile on our faces for days… and we now know what Prince Harry was doing in that infamous picture on the balcony at Buckingham Palace, all together now… BLEEEEEUUUUGHHHHHH!

Wacaday Famous Fans

Huge thanks to Timmy for taking the time to answer our burning questions. While writing this blog post, I’ve been fascinated re-reading Timmy’s website – in particular the history of Wacaday – and would recommend anyone to grab a cuppa, sit down for half an hour and soak up some truly awesome stories!

This blog post was brought to you by TruffleShuffle.com, the home of Timmy Mallett T-Shirts, Wacaday T-Shirts and Pinky Punky Mallett’s Mallets!

Big Bang Theory Flash Mob Video – MUST SEE!

As purveyors of the finest Big Bang Theory t-shirts around, we don’t quite know how we missed seeing this little gem of a video that surfaced on YouTube a couple of months back.

In October last year Kaley Cuoco, who plays Penny, arranged a flash-mob which included the entire cast and crew of the show. During filming, Carly Rae Jepson’s “Call Me Maybe” started playing in the studio, to which the flash-mob starts. Watch the video below to see an amazing performance including Gold Digger, Run the World, Big Pimpin’ and Party Rock.

What we’d have given to be in the live studio audience that day!
