The First Avenger.

This July, there's excitement brewing in the TruffleShuffle office... On the 29th of July the man who is not afraid to mix stripes with stars will be hitting the big screens all around the UK. Some may think this is some kind of fashion faux-pas, but for Captain America it’s the only option....

So with the movie just around the corner, what better time for me to fill you in on a bit of background information on this fighter for Liberty and Justice..... Captain America's real name is Steve Rogers. During World War 2 Rogers was turned away by the US military for being too sickly and weak but Rogers was given a second chance to serve his country by joining a top secret military project to create the world’s first super soldier. The procedure involving Super-Soldier Serum and "Vita-Ray" treatment was a success but the experiment was ambushed by the evil Red Skull (Head of Nazi terrorist activities, the commander of terrorist organization HYDRA & soon to become Roger's greatest foe). Unfortunately for Red Skull, the scientists were also killed during the ambush taking the super soldier formula with them.

Powers

The serum and ray treatment turns Roger's into the pinnacle of human perfection, giving him super human strength, speed, agility and extraordinarily keen reflexes and senses. He has blended judo, western boxing, kickboxing, and gymnastics into his own unique fighting style and has also trained in multiple martial arts and weapons training. His weapon of choice is possible one of the most iconic in the Marvel universe, a shield.

Chunk – A great British t-shirt brand!

Hi my name’s Simon and I’m a Chunkaholic. There I said it. Now, If you haven’t come across any of our men’s T-shirts from Chunk then you’re in for a right treat. I’ll start with a quick history lesson...

Chunk started back in 2001 having launched some designs all based on the Haynes Car Manuals iconic cover illustrations. Ten years on and Chunk is now one of the UK’s leading urban street-wear labels. Chunk’s ethos was, and still is, to produce great designs on quality garments, targeting 18-35 year old males with a strong emphasis on cool nostalgia. Famous for their bold graphics, tongue-in-cheek humour and unique design quirks, Chunk now has worked with some of the biggest licenses in the world, which include Marvel, Hanna Barbera, Fremantle Media (Danger Mouse) and Lucas Films (Star Wars) – for which Chunk won a licensing award in 2007 for its Star Wars range. The future promises to be incredibly bright for Chunk as the brand expands into even more retro goodness further cementing its reputation as a great British brand.

With TruffleShuffle.com offering a massive range of amazing retro t-shirts, gifts and accessories we get to see cool new stuff all the time. But for me nothing matches the excitement of a new Chunk catalogue turning up because I know it will be full of amazing new designs. It’s their ‘outside the box’ approach to designing a t-shirt that I love, generally taking a familiar character such as Darth Vader or Mr.T and putting them in an unusual situation, IT’S GENIUS. I could only wish that when I’m down at the coast for a cheeky weekend surf that I catch a Stormtrooper ‘out the back’ riding that perfect wave or driving past my local scrap yard would reveal that Mr.T, Luke and Bo Duke, Michael Knight and the Trotters famous ‘rides’ had reached the end of their lives (probably due to the government Scrappage scheme!!). Only t-shirts from Chunk make this happen.

Cycling Superheroes

Being a keen cyclist I was pedalling my way across the world wide web the other night when I came across some some fantastic illustrations by graphic designer/illustrator/fellow bike fiend Mike Joos.

If like me, you grew up reading comics you'll know some superheroes can fly through the air, some can scale skyscrapers and others can metamorphose into other beings. However, I don't remember them ever resorting to riding bicycles! Joos, has created the funny side of these superheroes with these illustrations in which each character rides a customized bike. What is even more clever is that each of the bicycles is somehow connected to the character that sits on it.

See a selection of our favourite bike-themed Joos pieces below:

Thunder, Thunder, Thundercats.....

Warner Bros Animation have teamed up with Japanese animation company Studio 4°C (The people behind Batman: Gotham Knights & The Animatrix) to reboot the Thundercats series later this year.

If you don't remember the Thundercats from the first time round, it was a cheesy 80's cartoon that followed the adventures of a group of cat-like humanoid aliens and it was AWESOME. Here's pictures of the original and the revamped cast to jog your memory.

Cartoon Network are planning to show an initial 26 episodes and it marks Warner Bros. Animation's first ever anime series!

Check out the trailer and let us know what you think....

Here's what Warner Bros. Animation has to say about the revival:
