Guest Post: Rock Chick vs Geek Chic

Just before Christmas, me and fellow blogger Emily Jayne were discussing our favourite TruffleShuffle 80's t-shirts, as you do. It was interesting to see how although we had similar tastes our personal style is so different. So whereas I was more ‘rock chick’, Emily was more ‘geek chic’.

That’s the beauty of TruffleShuffle, there is something for everyone. Whether you grew up listening to your favourite punk rock band or watching Neighbours, there is a t-shirt to bring back those good memories!

We thought we’d embrace our individual styles by joining forces for a ‘Rock Chick vs Geek Chic’ photo-shoot, picking a TruffleShuffle tee to take you from day to night. Choosing a t-shirt from TruffleShuffle is always hard because there is SO much choice but in the end I chose a David Bowie t-shirt and Emily a She-Ra Tee. Very fitting for our themes!

For my day look I wore my Bowie tee with some leather look trousers, cowboy boot heels, a camouflaged army jacket and my wolf Spirithood (it kept my head nice and warm)!

Guest Post: Going the Distance with Rocky & TruffleShuffle

As you know I’m a guest blogger on TruffleShuffle.co.uk and it is one of my favourite things about being a blogger. I have so much love for them!

Now the majority of their t-shirts excite me but when I heard they had some new Rocky t-shirts in, man I could not contain my excitement. I absolutely love the Rocky films having grown up watching them. Balboa is a total legend. Before I became a guest blogger for TruffleShuffle, I actually got in touch with them on Facebook asking them to get some Rocky tees in for ladies, a request which was heard. The tee was of the iconic ‘Italian Stallion’ logo and was given to me as a birthday present by our Steph :)

But one Rocky tee just wasn't going to be enough for me…

The lovely guys at TruffleShuffle knew about my Balboa love and offered to send me the TWO (not one but two!) Rocky t-shirts. Have I told you how much I love them? I was grinning like a Cheshire cat for days! The tees have arrived at a perfect time as I’m currently on a health kick and have been taking inspiration from the Rocky films. Yes you heard right.

Rocky T-ShirtsI’m not very good at dieting (chips are my weakness) so the only way to lose some weight and tone up is to get my exercise on. However I have wasted so much money on gym memberships in the past as I become lazy and stop going. I know I know! This year I thought I’d do things differently. After watching Rocky 3 one night, I found myself grabbing my skipping rope and going for it. I found the motivation I needed, It was under my nose the whole time. Forget all those celebrity workout dvd’s and Zumba classes, I just needed to take notes from Mr Rocky Balboa.

Now I don’t have my own Mickey calling me a lousy bum and spurring me on so I went to the next best thing: my iPod. Armed with the Rocky soundtrack I have started my own fitness regime. Gone are the days of ‘Get Fit or Die Trying’ (our university regime), its all about ‘Going the Distance with Rocky Balboa’. And so far so good!

Guest Post! The Caped Crusader: Yep it’s Batman...

I was VERY tempted to name this blog post  “na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na naaa Batman!” because as you have probably realised by now that’s how mature I am. But there’s something about superheroes such as Batman that bring out that childish side to you. We all know that the idea of a man getting superpowers after being bitten by a radioactive spider or a man going around dressed as a bat is quite ridiculous yet we’re still enticed and get stupidly excited about this fantasy world.

Perfect example of this is of course ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ which is the third and final instalment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

I’ve never seen so many people- of all ages-get so excited by one film. It is definitely a buzz that only certain movies bring. After all, superheroes are amazing. Growing up I used to love watching superhero films such as Superman and Batman. Even TV series such as Wonder Woman and don’t laugh...Captain Planet.

Batman is the one superhero that really takes me back to my childhood. Forget the films; I always preferred Adam West and Burt Ward as the Dynamic Duo in the TV series. I can remember watching the TV series during our summer holidays on Channel 4 around 1.30pm! At the time they were so gripping and totally believable. I never questioned the convenient gadgets (there are 100 flights of stairs and the lifts not working...oh wait we can use the Batjet which is conveniently placed in the Batmobile) or the fact that nobody could tell that it was Bruce Wayne as Batman.  Who can forget the “Bam! Crash! Wallops!”?

It was this cheesy side of Batman that I preferred growing up and despite watching most of the Batman films my allegiance was always to the 1960’s caped crusader. But then Christian Bale happened.

Man he’s beautiful. But forget his beautiful face for a second if you can...it was his dark and suave Batman that got me gripped. Christopher Nolan’s Batman was a far cry from the ones I was used to- and I liked it!

Reppin’ the old skool with Fydelity

As many of you know, I have the awesome role of being Truffleshuffle’s guest blogger. I’ve got a lotta love for them and of course EVERYTHING they sell from t-shirts to retro accessories.

When they asked me to review their new range of bum bags… I was a little surprised. Bum bags?! When did they come back into fashion? Were they even in fashion? I know we all used to have one back in the day, whether people admit it or not.

It was when I saw a photo of Rihanna rocking one, I thought hey if she can rock it so can I. But even Rihanna’s bum bag wasn't as cool as the one Truffleshuffle sent me. See I knew there would be something more to it than just being a bum bag. This is Truffleshuffle after all. Retro and cool…

As cool as her bum bag is I bet it doesn't play music…ah yeah!

The bum bag that they sent me is from the brand ‘Fydelity‘ which Truffleshuffle.co.uk stock. Like I said these aren’t just any bum bags- with built in amplified speakers so you can connect your mp3/iPod/smartphone to it. It’s a boombox in a bag!

It is literally too cool. There are quite a few colours to choose from including a leopard print one (!) but I resisted and went for a grey one.

Reminisce with the Raggy Dolls

A couple of weeks ago, I turned 24. As someone who is very much still young at heart (I think the correct word is immature!) it suddenly dawned on me that I am getting old! Pretty soon I’ll have to start doing those grown up things that I have been trying to avoid like settling down, saving up instead of spending all my wages on clothes and possibly even getting a mortgage!

So when thoughts like that start entering your head, what do you do? Well you start by reliving your childhood. Those good old days where the only money worries you had was whether you had enough money to buy the latest Smash Hits magazine AND have change for a Hubba Bubba. Oh I miss those days…

I think TruffleShuffle just totally epitomises how much value we hold to our childhood memories. It’s not so much what’s on the t-shirt that excites us but the memories behind that certain TV program, cartoon or film. Am I right?

When I heard that TruffleShuffle were launching a new range of Raggy Dolls t-shirts it immediately brought back memories. The first thing that entered my head was of course the theme tune! “It’s the raggy dolls, raggy dolls, dolls like you and me…”

It’s strange but I can remember that whole intro in my head despite not having watched it in YEARS.

Being in the reject bin with the Raggy Dolls seemed like more fun than being a ‘perfect’ doll. Look at all the fun they had! It showed as a young girl growing up that you didn’t have to be perfect to fit in- a brilliant social message in a brilliant cartoon.

Sunny’s Retro Christmas Gift Guide

In the words of Noddy Holder: “IT’S CHRISTMASSSSSS!”

Yes, tis the season to be jolly…so I keep telling myself. Now I’m not saying I’m Ebenezer Scrooge mark II but these past few years I’ve been more “bah humbug” than “ho ho ho”. Despite my lack of enthusiasm for the holidays recently, I still uphold the jolly tradition of giving Christmas presents (as well as watching Christmas TV/films) - see I’m no Scrooge!

Since us Wardrobe girls became friends back at Uni, we’ve been giving presents every year and this year is no different. Buying lots of Christmas presents can be an extremely stressful task especially when you’re tackling the high street crowds (raging much?). Oh lets not forget the impact it can have on your bank balance- bad times.

Here at Wardrobe we like to set a budget for our gifts which makes it a lot easier. How awkward would it be if you bought someone a gift for a fiver and they spent say fifty quid on yours! We also love to do ‘Secret Santa’ which means everyone in the group gets at least one decent present each and your bank balance doesn’t suffer much.

Every year, finding presents gets tougher and tougher but this year the guys over at TruffleShuffle may just have saved me from having a mini-breakdown. Their gift section has got bigger and definitely better. Also their new online gift finder is a godsend. Just to prove how immense the collection is I’ve put together a little retro gift guide to hopefully give you some ideas.
