Guest Post: Going the Distance with Rocky & TruffleShuffle

As you know I’m a guest blogger on TruffleShuffle.co.uk and it is one of my favourite things about being a blogger. I have so much love for them!

Now the majority of their t-shirts excite me but when I heard they had some new Rocky t-shirts in, man I could not contain my excitement. I absolutely love the Rocky films having grown up watching them. Balboa is a total legend. Before I became a guest blogger for TruffleShuffle, I actually got in touch with them on Facebook asking them to get some Rocky tees in for ladies, a request which was heard. The tee was of the iconic ‘Italian Stallion’ logo and was given to me as a birthday present by our Steph :)

But one Rocky tee just wasn't going to be enough for me…

The lovely guys at TruffleShuffle knew about my Balboa love and offered to send me the TWO (not one but two!) Rocky t-shirts. Have I told you how much I love them? I was grinning like a Cheshire cat for days! The tees have arrived at a perfect time as I’m currently on a health kick and have been taking inspiration from the Rocky films. Yes you heard right.

Rocky T-ShirtsI’m not very good at dieting (chips are my weakness) so the only way to lose some weight and tone up is to get my exercise on. However I have wasted so much money on gym memberships in the past as I become lazy and stop going. I know I know! This year I thought I’d do things differently. After watching Rocky 3 one night, I found myself grabbing my skipping rope and going for it. I found the motivation I needed, It was under my nose the whole time. Forget all those celebrity workout dvd’s and Zumba classes, I just needed to take notes from Mr Rocky Balboa.

Now I don’t have my own Mickey calling me a lousy bum and spurring me on so I went to the next best thing: my iPod. Armed with the Rocky soundtrack I have started my own fitness regime. Gone are the days of ‘Get Fit or Die Trying’ (our university regime), its all about ‘Going the Distance with Rocky Balboa’. And so far so good!

The Weekly Retro Movie Rundown 25!

Mrs Voorhees severed head! It must be Halloween Weekend.

As the darkness thickens and your bones start to chill and tiny hairs on your body stand on end. Your eyes refuse to blink as you look around every corner for what you thought you saw, you heard something, a  flicker of a shadowy figure darts from one wall to another as a gentle whisper of air brushes past your ear! Your spine trembles, your body tenses, you’d rather not turn around because you know situations like this never end well! There’s a creek from the wooden floorboards and as your heart thumps louder your curiosity gets the better of you as you make the decision to turn - you take one last gulp of air before you turn your head! Something darts out from the corner of the darkness, you jump literally out of your skin and let out a tiny yelp as your kitty cat playing  tricks on you runs between your legs looking like the smuggest little butter wouldn’t melt (true story, this actually happened!)

So like a group of happy little kiddies dressed to the nines like ghosts and witches let us be your friendly bandaged head to foot mummy and try to fill your plastic glowing pumpkin heads to the brim as we take you door to door looking for retro tricks and nostalgic treats of pure spooky cinematic greatness.

Have a happy retro spooky weekend mwaaa hahahah haaaaa!

Guest Post: What Were They Thinking - Who Inspired the Hottest Fashion Trends of the 80’s?

As far as fashion trends go, it is probably fair to say that no decade is quite as notoriously bad as the 80’s. Can you name any other period where you could get away with wearing skin tight pants one day followed by baggy “MC Hammer” style pants the next? Not forgetting of course that you could also have been wearing leg warmers, a sweater and a miniskirt all at the same time and probably in electric neon colors as well!

Color was the overriding theme throughout the 80’s and mixing up some of the brightest options together was somehow deemed acceptable, what were we all thinking? Here are some of the great fashion statements that were made during this decade and some of the famous people who wore them and for some reason seemed to inspire us to do the same.

Shoulder Pads

Synonymous with the 1980’s , shoulder pads were THE fashion statement for women who wanted to “Power Dress” and stand out from the crowd, despite the fact that looking back, they may have looked like an American footballer in a dress when you look at the size of the pads. Joan Collins in Dynasty and even Princess Diana wore their shoulder pads with pride and the look was complete with the big hairdo.

Leg Warmers

Was it really cold outside in the 1980’s, or was there some other reason why they were so popular? Jane Fonda is the main culprit for this fashion faux-pas as she wore them in her workout videos but Madonna and Cyndi Lauper do not escape from blame and neither do the entire cast of “Footloose”.
