The TruffleShuffle My Little Pony!
There are a LOT of My Little Pony fans here at Truffle Towers so when one of our lovely customers who has her own business making custom Ponies got in touch with us, offering to make us our very own TruffleShuffle Pony - unsurprisingly, we leapt at the chance!
Victoria who runs Equine Vulgarity is a master of creating bespoke versions of the cartoon cuties we all grew up with so we asked her to come up with an 80's tastic Pony to become the Truffle Towers unofficial mascot!
Check out her masterpiece below...
Isn't she a beauty!
She comes complete with a neon mane, beaded accessories, bright leg warmers and her very own old school pink visor - a true 80's vision!
Now all that remains is to give her a name - what do you think guys? We'd love to hear your suggestions!
'Where the Wild Things Are' Author Maurice Sendak Dies
Some very sad news has hit the desk here at Truffle Towers today. Children's author and illustrator Maurice Sendak has died early this morning at age 83.
Sendak, who was born in Brooklyn in 1928 and was dubbed by critics as 'the Picasso of children's books', illustrated more than 50 books during his long career and also won a number of prizes for his amazing drawings.
In all, Sendak penned 17 books but was best known for his 1963 story Where The Wild Things Are, a children's classic in the US and sold more than 19 million copies worldwide.
This childhood classic told the story of a boy called Max who after being sent to his room without supper as punnishment, goes on a journey through his own imagination in a mysterious forest full of fearsome-looking monsters, later becoming the king of all wild things. However, he soon finds himself lonely and homesick and returns home to the safety of his bedroom where he finds his supper waiting for him. Sorry for those who haven't read it yet!
Often seen as quite scary and controversial due to its monster imagery (which we love!), this much-loved tale earned him the hugely prestigious Medal for the best childrenâs book of 1964 and became a hit movie in 2009.
Win Exclusive Tickets to an Intimate Ed Sheeran Gig
Here at Truffle Towers we love working with a variety of worthy causes â be it sending piles of clothes to orphanages in Africa or sponsoring our local football team. Thereâs one charity weâve been really keen to support this year, and thatâs a local Bristol based charity called one25. The organisation aims to reach out to women trapped in street sex work, supporting them to break free and build new lives away from violence, poverty and addiction.
One25âs outreach van goes out 5 nights a week providing food, drink and support to Bristolâs most vulnerable ladies. The charity opens its doors as a drop-in centre five days a week, providing access to much needed healthcare, support, education, laundry, clothing and shower facilities. On top of all this amazing work, one25 provides one-to-one casework support in order to individually help each and every woman wanting to make a positive change to her life.
Whatâs this about Ed Sheeran?
Sometime last year, one25âs fundraiser extraordinaire, Lu Willot contacted a little known musician going by the name of Ed Sheeran and asked if heâd be interested in supporting the charity by playing a gig in a small venue in Bristol as a thank you to the charityâs fundraisers. Not only did Ed agree to play the gig, he also got his mate Luke Concannon (best known as the front-man of Nizlopi and writer of their famous JCB Song) to play alongside him. Little did Lu know that after agreeing to this intimate Bristol performance, Ed would have four Top 10 singles, one gold, two platinum and one triple platinum!
The BRIT-nominated artist explained his reason for supporting the cause....
"It's good to show insight that these people are real people with real emotions and they deserve the same charity work as anyone else." Ed, who shot to fame when his debut single 'The A Team' went straight to number 3 in the UK chart last summer will be playing at the imtimate Bristol venue The Fleece on May 22 and as organiser Lu says.....
Minimalist Superheroes
There's nothing I like more than Trawling the internet for random pictures and videos. And every so often you find fresh artistic talent that just catches you eye, in this case made even better by its retro inspired theme. These Minimal Superhero Posters by art student Calvin Lin perfectly demonstrate my point.
The minimalist designs are great, from Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman to Green Lantern and others, every poster is also 100% clear, without ever showing too much.
I don't know about you, but I'd love these hung around my house!
Is it a bird? Is it a plane?
It's better than that folks - it's our brand new Superman Caped Socks, recently spotted on Robert Griffin. Collecting his Heisman award - the NFL Washington Redskins Qarterback done it in style by rocking these Superman socks under his suite.
It seems he has a bit of a reputation with his taste in undergarments, attracting the media spotlight recently with another pair of quirky socks.
He obviously has taste - and who could blame him?
We've also added Wonder Woman caped socks and Batman caped socks - just to make sure you are spoiled for choice when choosing!
These socks would be an ideal present for any Superhero fan if you can bear to part with them! Head over to TruffleShuffle to check them out here.
