Who'd have thunk it, Team TruffleShuffle raised £12,000 in ONE DAY for charity!

Two weeks ago, eight of us TruffleShufflers took a day out from our desk jobs to take part in an Apprentice style "Director's Challenge" for the lovely one25 charity. The aim of the day was to work through a list of challenges in order to raise as much money as humanly possible in an eight hour day for the charity, which aims to support street sex workers in changing their lives for the better - by giving up this street work, finding new jobs, new homes and ridding themselves of addictions. One25 provides an outreach van which engages street workers at night on the streets of Bristol, providing advice, support and all the details they need to feel welcome at the charity's drop-in centre. At the drop in centre, the women are welcome to come for a cuppa, do their laundry, meet counsellors, doctors and addiction specialists - with the ultimate aim of giving them the best possible chance to step away from the streets into a safer, healthier life.

Our Director's Challenges were as follows:

1. Recruit as many people as we could to run the Bristol Half Marathon or perform a sponsored SkyDive in aid of the charity. Each of these people would have to raise a minimum of £200 for one25 and that amount would go down on our scorecards.

2. Sell as many cake cook books as we could for £5 each.

3. Gather donated prizes for one25 to sell at their charity auction in November.

4. Collect corporate donations to the charity, trying our hardest to secure £125 from each generous donor.

5. Persuade people to text smaller donations to a special text number setup for the day.

Win Exclusive Tickets to an Intimate Ed Sheeran Gig

Here at Truffle Towers we love working with a variety of worthy causes – be it sending piles of clothes to orphanages in Africa or sponsoring our local football team. There’s one charity we’ve been really keen to support this year, and that’s a local Bristol based charity called one25. The organisation aims to reach out to women trapped in street sex work, supporting them to break free and build new lives away from violence, poverty and addiction.

One25’s outreach van goes out 5 nights a week providing food, drink and support to Bristol’s most vulnerable ladies. The charity opens its doors as a drop-in centre five days a week, providing access to much needed healthcare, support, education, laundry, clothing and shower facilities. On top of all this amazing work, one25 provides one-to-one casework support in order to individually help each and every woman wanting to make a positive change to her life.

What’s this about Ed Sheeran?

Sometime last year, one25’s fundraiser extraordinaire, Lu Willot contacted a little known musician going by the name of Ed Sheeran and asked if he’d be interested in supporting the charity by playing a gig in a small venue in Bristol as a thank you to the charity’s fundraisers. Not only did Ed agree to play the gig, he also got his mate Luke Concannon (best known as the front-man of Nizlopi and writer of their famous JCB Song)  to play alongside him. Little did Lu know that after agreeing to this intimate Bristol performance, Ed would have four Top 10 singles, one gold, two platinum and one triple platinum!

The BRIT-nominated artist explained his reason for supporting the cause....

"It's good to show insight that these people are real people with real emotions and they deserve the same charity work as anyone else." Ed, who shot to fame when his debut single 'The A Team' went straight to number 3 in the UK chart last summer will be playing at the imtimate Bristol venue The Fleece on May 22 and as organiser Lu says.....

Back To The Future Delorean Up For Auction!

Yes, you read it right! Back to the Future's III's iconic DeLorean is part of the upcoming Profiles in History auction and this awesome piece of movie history is expected to fetch a whopping $600,000 when it goes under the hammer in December!

One of only three of the seven DeLoreans used in the trilogy to survive, it was of course fitted with a flux capacitor and fuelled by plutonium,  ready to travel through time when it reached a speed of 88mph.

For fans with slightly less cash to burn, the legendary hoverboard, which featured in Back to the Future Part II, is also on sale and estimated to fetch up to $20,000 (£12,800!)  Marty's jacket and the shirt worn by his legendary mentor, Doc Brown are also up for grabs.

The auction is being held to raise money for Michael J Fox's Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Fox who played Marty Mc Fly in the awesome movie trilogy went public with his own battle with Parkinson's in 1998 after he was diagnosed seven years previously.

The auction, which will include other items of film memorabilia including a pair of Wizard of Oz ruby slippers, will take place December 15 to 17 so if you're prepared to dig pretty damn deep, keep your eye on the auction site here as more details will be revealed soon.

If however (like us,) these amazing pieces of movie memorabilia are sadly out of reach, never fear! Luckily, you can get your very own little piece of Back To The Future for just £5.99 right here on TruffleShuffle.com!

Guest Post – meet the lovely Claire from 80scartoons!

Hiya!

I'm Claire and run 80sCartoons.co.uk which began back in 1998....has it really been that long? I was at art college in Dundee trying to teach myself web design, and had created a little homepage (most likely with a hideous tiled background, blinking text and animated gifs galore!) which mentioned a few of my favourite childhood cartoons

Any visitors that found my site (probably through Alta Vista or Lycos! Life before Google eh!) and signed my guestbook always commented on the cartoons and suggested more of their favourites that I should add...and so it grew from there!

Now it getting over 1,000 nostalgia-hungry visitors every day, and currently has over 8,000 Facebook followers! The demand for all things retro increases every year, especially as sites like TruffleShuffle have so many wonderful 80s goodies on offerto help to keep those memories alive!

I’ve been very lucky while running 80sCartoons, as I’ve managed to speak directly to many 80s cartoons “celebs”.  If someone told me when I was 8 years old, that one day I’d be talking directly  with the maker of Button Moon, the animator of the Raggy Dolls, the creator of Jimbo and the Jet-Set the list goes on... I would have fallen off my rollerboots!

I’ve interviewed Terry Brain, who co-created Trap Door, which was a special treat for me as I was a huge fan back in the day.  He also animated Stoppit and Tidyup, and went on to work for Aardman animation – that man is a legend! Amonst other things, he told me that Berk, Boni, Drutt & the big sponge were his favourite character creations and that his favourite Trap Door episode was 'Bye Bye Berk'!

Check Out Our Chari-Tee Donations!

Here at Truffle Towers we often receive requests for help with charity events and fundraising. As much as we would like to help everyone (and we have a lot of love to give!) it's not always possible however we wanted to share with you one of the recent requests we were able to help with.

The fabulous idea of “SWISHING”! was explained to us by the Bristol Crisis Service for Women Fundraising Team and we love it. The art of “swishing” involves getting together to swap clothes, shoes, bags and accessories meaning you can get a whole new wardrobe for all your old clobber – recycling at its best!!

As well as a fantastic clothes filled evening the fundraising team are also holding a raffle so we have donated a prize of a gift voucher to be spent on our site so even more reason to join in the swishing fun!

Set up in 1986, Bristol Crisis Service for Women was created to support women in emotional distress. The charity aims to offer support to women in need and particularly to those who self-injure. In the UK at least one in every 15 young people has experience of self-injury and this charity with many volunteer workers offers different forms of continuous support for anyone who needs it. For more information about this worthy charity you can visit their website here and if you would like to contact them for information, help or support you can text, email or call them here.

If any of our fans are in the Bristol area on Saturday 17th September and fancy getting in on the Swishing action as well as supporting a fantastic cause why not pop along - be sure to let us know how you get on!
