Happy Have A Coke Day 2015!

It’s back! Today we’re celebrating all things Coca-Cola with another Have A Coke Day!

Since history began (…okay maybe not quite that long) Coca-Cola has been a staple for many social occasions. Kids parties, picnics, nights out with friends, sunny afternoons in the park…you name it Coca-Cola has been there and done that.

To help celebrate this big day in style, we thought we would take a snoop around and check out some of our favourite uses of the humble Coca-Cola cans and bottles that have really helped them to take on a new life and of course celebrate the amazing ways to recycle after the sweet brown stuff has been enjoyed.

Check out some of our amazing discoveries and ways the Coke empties have been brought back to life…

Coke Can Tray

Yep this is just about as simple and funky as they come. Why not turn your old can into this amazing (and FREE) tray. Careful you don’t lose some fingers though!

Coke Bottle Glasses

You can turn the iconic Coke Bottle into these amazing drinking glasses using the fire string technique (great example here). Once you’ve done this, you could also turn these glasses into candles to use as gifts! Cool huh!

Coke Planter

Go green in style and create some amazing planters out of old bottles. Love this idea.

Coke Bottle Bowling

Why not turn those bottles into a great game?! Simply line them up and use a small ball to know them down. Perhaps add a small amount of sand or water in to make it more of a challenge. Mix up the mounts and give each one a different score perhaps. Go wild!

EKOCYCLE Amazingness!

Okay so this might not be something you can do at home, but the amazing Will.I.Am and Coca-Cola have teamed up with an array of labels, including MCM, Globe-Trotter, H Brothers and Ecoalf to produce sustainable, luxurious and stylish collections to help create some simply amazing examples of just what can be created with left over bottles and cans we all throw away. Is it the real thing?

Have a Coke Day

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist and a lab to work out the ingredients we use to create our great Coca-Cola t-shirts but should you want to know the secrets behind the world famous fizzy drink you can buy [what is believed to be] the original recipe…..

An American antiques dealer claims to have stumbled across the top secret recipe for Coca-Cola. Cliff Kluge said he discovered the 1943 formula in a box of personal papers and letters he purchased from the estate of a respected chemist in his hometown of Georgia.

Coca-Cola Recipe

“Whoever had typed this letter had seen the original recipe. The letter always references Coke and products and stuff,” he said. He is convinced it is the real thing and has posted the paper on eBay for a starting price of $5million (£3.2million) or a ‘buy now’ price of $15million (£9.6million). So far, the only bid has come from a 15 year old but is not thought to be legitimate.

The recipe for Coca Cola, which is sold in every country except Cuba and North Korea, is believed to include cinnamon, nutmeg, citrus oils and vanilla.

Kluge believes that Coca-Cola might have sent the ingredient list to the pharmacist because the company was having trouble obtaining everything necessary during the war. The 19th century recipe for the fizzy drink is a tightly kept secret and is safely tucked away in a vault at the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta.

Ted Ryan, the archivist for Coca-Cola believes the recipe is a formula for a ‘cola’ type drink but not Coca-Cola.

Kluge, whose copy is in a safety deposit box, acknowledged: “I can’t prove this is the original recipe. No one can because only two people (both executives of Coca-Cola) in the world know it.”

In 2011, the public radio show “This American Life” came out with what it believed to be a handwritten original recipe for Coca-Cola, which in its earliest form had cocaine among its ingredients.

Farmer Jimmy Doherty attempted to make his own Cola on his TV show Jimmy’s Food Factory. Jimmy manages to recreate the taste of cola by using water, sugar, natural plant oils, gum arabic, caramel colouring, phosphoric acid and caffeine. Click the image below to see how he got on.

If you can’t quite stretch to purchasing the original recipe why not treat yourself to a nice t-shirt, hoodie or jacket to show your love for the original Thirst-Quencher…. We have a large selection of Coca-Cola Clothing but here’s some of my favourite.

Happy National Have a Coke Day!

Have a Coke Day

Typically when you think of what Coca Cola is good for, the obvious reasons would be either to drink it or wearing it on your Coca-Cola t-shirts! But this super-smashing soft drink is good for so many other things…..

Here are 5 of my favouite unusual and surprising uses for Coca Cola. Try them out!

Pain Killer

Jellyfish Sting

The chemicals in coca cola can be very effective to help neutralize the pain of jellyfish stings. The best thing about this is that people at the beach are more likely to be carrying a bottle of Coke than carrying anti-sting lotions. Just pour the coke over the area in which you have been stung and feel the relief. Your other alternative is to pee on the stung part of your body – or to have someone else pee on it for you. I think I know what I’d prefer……

By mixing five common household ingredients you can create a magical tonic that will [and I quote] keep your lawn greener than blood from a Vulcan! This recipe can be modified for different climates, but one factor stays true, it contains Coca-Cola and apparently it’s a heck of a lot cheaper and more effective than shop-bought mixes.

Cook with it

Coca-Cola Chicken

I’m no Gordon Ramsay so to find out Coke can be used in cooking sounds excellent!! Having surfed the net for some ideas and recipes it turns out in can be used in a variety of different ways. You can mix it with BBQ sauce for an excellent marinade or you can casserole an entire chicken in it, you can even bake a cake with it. Below is a tasty sounding recipe I found for chicken pieces. Apparently, the sugars give a deep glossy coating and caramelized flavor, while the citric acid gives a nice tang. I’ll definitley be trying this out……

4 to 6 pieces chicken filets
1 bunch of spring onions
2 garlic cloves
1/2 tsp. thyme
3 tbsp. oil (olive oil)
1 oz. Coke-Cola

Season the chicken with salt, garlic and spring onions. Leave it in refrigerator overnight. Next day, put the oil in the pan and heat it until the oil is hot. Put the chicken in the pan. When it’s brownish on one side turn it to the other side. Then throw in the garlic and spring onions and sprinkle the thyme over the chicken. When it is brownish on that side then pour the Coke-Cola over the chicken and keep the flame high until the coke is evaporated.Pierce each piece of chicken with the fork. Press it and move it around the pan in order to absorb the sugar. Cover the pan and leave it covered for 5-8 minutes after you turn off the stove. Larger pieces may need 2 or 3 more minutes of cooking. To be served over pasta or rice.

Hiccup Remedy

Urban Myth? Maybe… Gargle a mouthful of Coke in the back of your throat, and word on the street is that your hiccups will disappear.

Make a fountain

Most people who have used the Internet before will be aware of the old Diet-Coke-Mentos fountain. The idea is that you drop a Mentos into a bottle of Coke and the chemical reaction causes the Coke to spurt for miles (well, almost miles). The video clip above shows a great example of this fun use for Coke. Why not buy a bottle and see if you can do better?
