We had the time of our lives!

Last night – us ladies decided to ditch the men of TruffleShuffle and head to Bristol Hippodrome for Dirty Dancing on stage.

Checklist in tow of course:

Front row tickets – check.

Retro sweets – check.

Dirty Dancing T-shirt – check.

A crush on Johnny Castle – check.

Lots of happy 80’s memories – check.

We arrived after having a meal at a nearby restaurant, got seated and had a quick chat about what to expect.  I have only been to the theatre a few times, so I was unsure about what the night had in store for us. It was Press Night which meant there was a great buzz in the audience, lots of expectations and people waiting to see their Classic 80’s film brought to life again.

The cast is outstanding – the likeness between the main characters Johnny, Baby and Penny are chillingly accurate. Emily Holt, playing Baby gives an excellent portrayal of the slightly quirky, awkward lady who graced our screens in the 80’s. Paul-Michael Jones brought Johnny to life with his rugged good looks, rebel attitude and overall ‘je ne sais quoi’. Penny – played by the gorgeous Charlotte Gooch stole the show in our eyes – stunning, amazing presence and flawless dance moves (she get’s a massive thumbs up from the TruffleShuffle ladies!)

The dancing is everything you would expect it to be – all the classic dances are included, along with a couple of extras thrown in that you don’t expect to see.

Overall, this is a show well worth seeing. You won’t be disappointed at all if you are a fan of the film. It’s exactly what you want it to be, with none of the ‘best bits’ left out. And yes, they do the lift!

Dirty Dancing Remake? How ‘Very Hollyrude’!

Leave our favourite 80’s films alone! Will they ever learn?

Here at TruffleShuffle we usually have mixed opinions when it comes to classic films being remade, however this time…..it seems we are all singing from the same song sheet!

If, like us you watched Dirty Dancing at least once a month as you were growing up – you’ll join us in thought when we say this iconic film should be left well alone. They can’t re-create moments like these, and even if they could – we wouldn’t want them to!

The new film will be directed by Kenny Ortega – who was the choreographer in the original film (this can only be a good thing…..surely?),  so hopefully he will be able to recreate the smallest spark of magic that existed in the original film. Since then – he has worked with some impressive musicians – among them being Madonna and Michael Jackson.

So who will play Johnny and Baby? If we are to believe the favourites, then it looks like Justin Timberlake and Myley Cyrus may take the lead roles. What I personally love about the original, even from the Iconic ‘I carried a Watermelon’ moment – is how quirky Jennifer Grey appears in the film. When playing the part of Baby, she wasn’t outrageously ‘Hollywood’ – she was the girl next door, and we loved her for it. When you add Patrick Swayze, in all his rugged glory to the mix – it instantly becomes a winning combination – that we don’t think can be created again.

As with anything retro inspired – we hit the walls of Facebook to gauge the opinions of our trusty fans. Some of our favourite comments regarding the remake:

‘I think the makers are wasting their money…it doesn’t matter how good they make it, to the people who love the original it’ll never be as good…there is no actor that be able to step into the shoes of Patrick Swayze he was, is and always will be the only Jonny Castle for me.’

‘Much like a car crash, I feel I won’t be able to pass this by without looking but it should never happen!! Will prob be set in the 80’s to hip hop choons & Johnny (now spelt Jonni) says “I’m all up in y’alls grill bout putting ma woman in corner yo, fo shizzle” Tragic, just tragic…’

‘They can remake it as many times as they want but no one will want to watch it when the original is just such a masterpiece!! It’s just going to continually be compared to the original and it’s never going to match up to the original so Leave well alone I say!’

The masses have spoken! At TruffleShuffle we remain (slightly) positive – maybe the new film will make us appreciate the original more – as we scream to our children ‘The orignal is SO much better!’ To show your maximum dedication –  keep the original movie in the social spotlight by rocking our Dirty Dancing t-shirts and accessories.

Arghhh Jennifer Grey is back!!!

The cast of the upcoming season of Dancing With The Stars has finally been announced and it reads like an 80’s who’s who which has understandably got us very excited!
Even though the show is based in the states, it’s broadcast over here which means we too get to see the likes of
David Hasselhoff, Michael Bolton, Florence Henderson and most excitingly, Jennifer Grey AKA Dirty Dancing’s Baby (eeek!) strut their stuff on the dancfloor! Jennifer has been MIA for what feels like years since her roles in Dirty Dancing and Ferris Bullers Day Off so we’re very excited to see her back in the spotlight – you couldn’t ask for a more appropriate 80’s legend to show us their moves!

Dirty Dancing film star Patrick Swayze has died.

Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in the classic, Dirty Dancing

Dirty Dancing film star Patrick Swayze has died aged 57.

He had been battling pancreatic cancer for nearly two years and died with family at his side on Monday.
Jennifer Grey, who co-starred with Swayze in Dirty Dancing, said in a statement: “Patrick was a rare and beautiful combination of raw masculinity and amazing grace. Gorgeous and strong, he was a real cowboy with a tender heart.
“He was fearless and insisted on always doing his own stunts, so it was not surprising to me that the war he waged on his cancer was so courageous and dignified.”

Rob Lowe, who played in a number of films with Swayze, said: “Patrick lived a thousand lifetimes in one lifetime. He was an expert dancer, he wrote hit songs, he starred in hit movies, he was an amazing horseman.
“But the thing I will remember him most for was his amazing love affair with his wife Lisa.”
Demi Moore has also paid tribute to her co-star in the hit film Ghost, saying: “Patrick you are loved by so many and your light will forever shine in all of our lives.”
She added: “I love and will miss you Patrick.”
