TruffleShuffle Insider: Meet…Amy

Here it is! For those of you who haven’t been following our little mini blog post series, we’ve been slowly but surely working our way through all the lovely names and faces of the TruffleShuffle dream team.
Taking a little time each month to put one unsuspecting victim member of staff in the spotlight, where we’ve been firing a whirlwind of questions at them and see what spins back out, just so you lovely lot can see just who is behind the scenes here at TruffleTowers.

This time it’s the turn of the logistical brain powerhouse Amy…. good luck! 🙂

What do you do here at Truffle Towers?
Where to start! As one of the original Trufflers I started as Customer Service Manager however as the business grew and Michelle (our Customer Service Guru… who’s interview can be found HERE) arrived I moved on to looking after our warehouse and helping improving the website and more recently becoming a world class nag to our suppliers, chasing up deliveries and ensuring stock arrives to keep our warehouse full of goodies.

8 amazing years filled with fun times 🙂

What do you like most about working here / best thing about your job?
I love my job! I think one of the best things about working at Truffle Towers is our lovely TruffleShuffle family. Everyone brings something different to the team and we all get involved whether it’s opinions on new designs or getting stuck in in the warehouse during busy times.
I leave the puns and artistic input to our more creative minds but if something needs organising – I’m your girl!

What is your favourite item currently on the site?
At the moment I’d have to say I really love this Cinderella T-Shirt

When you’re not at TruffleTowers, what do you like to do?
I am a member of a few local Amateur Dramatic groups so can be found rehearsing a couple of times a week for the next musical production I am in. On other evenings I like to spend time with my husband, family and friends and if this time involves dining out then it’s even better!

Animals (especially cats but my husband is allergic hates them so I am not allowed one!)

What were your favourite three films as a kid?
I didn’t really watch a lot of films or TV as a child and so since working at TruffleShuffle.com I have had a lot to learn but it’s been fun catching up! I did however love to read –  Beatrix Potter, Roald Dahl, Enid Blyton & Agatha Christie – just call me Matilda! 😉

If I had to choose films they would be- Anything Disney, Annie and Mrs Doubtfire which is still my all-time favourite film now.

Who is your idol?
I really can’t think of anyone for this, sorry!

Who is the last band you saw live?
I can already hear the other Trufflers laughing at this – I don’t do gigs (is that the right word!) I do however love a good musical and the last I saw was Shrek at the Bristol Hippodrome which was brilliant!

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Hmm tough one, a lot of my holiday dreams are animal related so I would love to visit the Orang-utans in Borneo, the Gorillas in Rwanda (this stems from another amazing film “Gorillas In The Mist”) and all the incredible wildlife found on the Galapagos Islands. Oh and I have always wanted to swim with sharks!

Which iconic TV/Film car would you most like to own?
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!

What music are you listening to at the moment?
The soundtrack to Avenue Q – think Sesame Street for grownups, it’s a musical with puppets who are a little more outrageous than the lovable Elmo and Cookie Monster!

If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?
Underwear Should ALWAYS Match!

If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?
I would pay off my parent’s mortgage and send them on a lovely holiday and then I guess I could start checking off the dream holiday destinations. Perhaps buy a house big enough that my husband wouldn’t notice a cat or two hiding around the place 🙂

12 Things You Didn't Know about Sesame Street

My blog post today is bought to you by the letter L. L is for love and down here at TruffleShuffle we love Sesame Street almost as much as we love t-shirts!

Incase rocking your latest Sesame Street related vintage t-shirt wasn’t enough to show your appreciation for the Street, we thought we’d arm you with 12 killer facts you probably didn’t know to impress your mates with down the pub….

1 – The show was almost called 123 Avenue B, but it was changed due to the fact that it was a real New York City address.

2 – The Count’s birthday is October 9, 1,830,653 B.C.

3 – Ernie wears horizontal stripes on his sweater to make him appear more relaxed; while Bert wears vertical stripes on his sweater to make him appear more uptight.

4 – Oscar the Grouch was originally orange. He changed to his trademark green color in the second season.

5 – In 1990, after Jim Henson’s untimely death, Kermit the Frog disappeared from the show. He reappeared in new segments in 1998. Jim never considered Kermit a regular, he always referred to him as “Sesame Street’s #1 guest star.”

6 – Big Bird is 8’2″ tall.

7 – Cookie Monster a.k.a “The Wheel Stealer”, predates the show by 3 years. Jim Henson originally designed an early version of the character [with teeth!] in 1966, to appear in an ad for General Mills Canada’s Wheels, Crowns and Flutes snacks. The pilot ad never aired.

8 – “America’s favorite game show host” Guy Smiley’s real name is Bernie Liederkrantz. Guy was Jim Henson’s least favorite character to perform.

9 – Ernie’s signature song “Rubber Duckie” was a tribute to his very own beloved Rubber Duckie. The song first aired during episode 78 going on to eventually reach number 16 on Billboard’s “Hot 100 Singles” chart in 1970.

10 – The character of Oscar the Grouch was inspired by two people. His attitude comes from a nasty waiter that served Jim Henson and former director Jon Stone at a restaurant called Oscar’s Tavern in Manhattan. The voice was inspired by a cab-driver that used to drive Caroll Spinney to the set every day during the first season.

11 – In 1979, C-3PO and R2-D2 visited Sesame Street.

12 – It is believed that Snuffuluffagus is Big Bird’s imaginary friend. Big bird is the ONLY character who sees him. Originally the adults on the show refused to believe he existed, but this was changed in 1985 when producers felt that this may would discourage children from sharing important things with their parents.
