A teenager discovers his new neighbour is the writer of a popular series of books, who harbours a terrifying secret. The ghosts and monsters the author writes about are real, and his stories keep them contained. The youngster accidentally releases them into the real world and has to find a way to get them back in the books before they can cause chaos. Fantasy adventure, starring Jack Black and Dylan Minnette.

A neurotic worker ant passes himself off as a soldier to impress a princess. However, he provokes a jealously ambitious general with an accidental act of heroism - so he and his beloved decide to flee the brutal colony and go in search of the promised land of Insectopia. A depressed and anti-social loans adviser attends a self-improvement course and decides to start saying yes to every opportunity that comes his way. His outlook is immediately transformed, but he soon realises that some invitations should not be accepted and struggles to find a balance in his life. The Railway Children (1970) ITV3 8:50am-11:00am (2 hours 10 minutes)

Three Edwardian children are forced to leave their comfortable middle-class London home and move to the wilds of Yorkshire after their father is wrongfully imprisoned for treason. Family drama adapted from E Nesbit's story, starring Jenny Agutter, Sally Thomsett, Gary Warren, Dinah Sheridan, Bernard Cribbins, William Mervyn and Iain Cuthbertson.

Five brothers and sisters are sent to live with their uncle in the country during the First World War. Their worries are soon forgotten when they encounter a mysterious creature who offers to grant them one wish each day. Fantasy, adapted from the classic tale by E Nesbit, with Eddie Izzard as the voice of the magical creature. Starring Kenneth Branagh, Zoe Wanamaker, Tara FitzGerald and Freddie Highmore.

A baseball player is stunned to learn he has come into a massive inheritance. A kindly farmer wins a cute piglet, which some greedy humans and jealous animals hope will end up as the Christmas roast. The Weekly Retro Movie Rundown 118

Cheese and crackers! It's only the weekend again!

Like like back in the day in the good old US or A, the weekend sees us cruising our way to the Drive In cinema with our oh-so lucky date for the night. We'll pick up our big box of popcorn and soda on the way to finding our spot in front of the big and bright screen that will soon whisk us off to far and distant lands with it's celluloid wonder and tinny sounding speakers.
