The Weekly Retro Movie Rundown – 324

Knock knock… who’s there? Gareth. Gareth who? Gareth who is knocking your recycling bins against your front door!
Keeping ourselves pretty wrapped up and prepped for the wild winds in the west, we find ourselves hearing our TV sets calling to us from afar with promises of epic takes, laughs and romantic tales. Well… if you say so TV!

The Great Muppet Caper (1981) E4 6:15am-8:00am
Reporters Kermit the Frog and Fozzie Bear are sacked for missing out on a massive scoop about the theft of jewellery from famous British fashion designer Lady Holiday. To try to re-establish their reputations, the duo and Gonzo fly to London to see if they can track down the culprit. Comedy, with the voices of Jim Henson and Frank Oz, with cameo appearances by John Cleese, Diana Rigg, Charles Grodin and Peter Ustinov.

A boy has to fend for himself when he is accidentally left behind after his family jets off to Paris for Christmas. The youngster initially enjoys his freedom but is soon forced to resort to ingenious booby traps to defend the family home from two dim-witted burglars. A teenager wishes her baby brother would be taken away, only to have her request granted by a band of goblins and their sinister king. Phew! Well another year has gone, a few more ‘laughter lines’ have appeared and we’re another year wiser… yeah right!
So much went down over 2018 that we couldn’t dare to talk about it all, from people rejoining the team (yay!), building our very own cinema and games room in the office (double yay!), to a whoooole heap of exclusive goodies we got to work on and get on the site. What a year!

As looking back to the past is pretty much our jobs! We thought we would take a quick peep at some of our best and most memorable products from 2018. Enjoy!

 

Disney - MICKEY THE TRUE ORIGINAL - 90 YearsIt all started with a mouse…and 90 years later, we still can’t get enough of Disney’s beloved Mickey! Mickey Mouse officially made his big screen debut in 1928’s Steamboat Willie and fast became Disney’s mascot and most-loved cartoon character. This year we marked Mickey’s landmark 90th birthday with a playful collection of Disney goodies – and oh boy, did you TruffleShufflers celebrate along with us! From snapping up classic jewellery to timeless tees; beauty treats to fashion-forward bags from the likes of Loungefly and Hype, Disney fans showed their love for the iconic mascot in style. Labyrinth & Moomin Christmas JumpersThis Christmas we found ourselves in a wonderful Winter Moominland! Our snowy scene jumper set hearts a flutter, featuring lovebirds Snorkmaiden and Moomintroll looking utterly adorable and it was love at first sight for this sell-out festive knit. The ultimate Christmas fantasy, our a-MAZE-ing Labyrinth fair isle jumper was retro knitting perfection! With the classic Bowie power mullet, Ludo and (our fave) the Worm starring on this wintery winner, any Labyrinth fan appreciated that everything we did, we did for you. Our minds are thick with wonderous ideas for another magnificent Christmas Jumpers collection next year, so keep your eyes peeled for the best, most unique Chrissy jumps, the world has seen in Autumn/Winter 2019.

 

Wallace and Gromit - Est. 1989Geronimo! This year saw the arrival of our first exclusive Wallace & Gromit collection. Pure Aardman gold, we were blown away by Feathers McGraw, Shaun The Sheep and the dynamic duo, Wallace and his trusty sidekick Gromit. Our tees, totes, mugs and tea towels zoomed out of our warehouse like a rocket blasting off to a cheesy moon! By ‘eck, what a cracking year for Wallace and Gromit. Watch this space, there’s plenty more to come in 2019!

 

Polly PocketIt may have been 2018 but here at TruffleShuffle the 90s definitely still ruled! You guys couldn’t get enough of our classic pink Polly Pocket bag – and with its sweet heart shape and amazing printed lining inspired by Polly’s pad, we don’t blame you! Along with some dreamy additions to the Polly Pocket collection like our shell-shaped aqua satchel, purple bow-finish bag and some pretty pastel socks, Polly was definitely the no.1 lady this year.
