Obsessively Awesome or a Tat Too Far?

TMNT Krang Stomach Tattoo
TMNT Krang Stomach Tattoo

I got sent this picture on Facebook the other day as I was wasting away my Sunday with the hope of someone turning up at my door with a hot Roast dinner in hand to cure my hangover.

It made me laugh as it’s an awesome idea for a tattoo and in an absolutely perfect position but it got me thinking, just how far are my fellow tat fans prepared to go to show their love for their ultimate pop culture icons?

I didn’t have to look hard – appears there are a whole host of fellow nostalgia fans out there who will go pretty damn far in their quest to show their appreciation for all things old school. Here’s a few of my favourites.

Nintendo sleeve (plus Megatron!)
Nintendo sleeve (plus Megatron!)

This full sleeve is made up mostly of Nintendo characters with Megatron randomly chucked in (apparently he was there before the owner of said tattoo decided to go all out with a full sleeve.) Not being a Mario fan as a kid, I guess I always wanted Megatron to turn up at Bowsers castle and show Mario how you start a ruckus so this definitely floats my boat.

The awesomeness that is the Muppets band in tattoo form – the colours are awesome.

Star Wars Tattoo

This guy must have totally crossed the streams to get this sick Leg tattoo inspired by the Ghostbusters movie. The detail is unreal.

Labyrinth
Labyrinth Tat

This leg tattoo pays homage to one of my favourite 80’s movies, Labyrinth. I always thought I was a pretty major Labyrinth fan, now I just feel lame!

And it’s not just the boys getting in on the action..

Alice in Wonderland - A Tattoo story
Alice in Wonderland - A Tattoo story

Yes – this brave lady has just about the entire Alice in Wonderland story inked across the upper half of her body.  Now that’s dedication!

It really does look like his skin has been torn off reveling his inner Superhero. A tat too far me thinks although maximum respect for having the balls to pay tribute to Spidey in such a dramatic way!

Let us know if this has got you emptying your bank account and booking in for a full body Spider-man costume tattoo, we’ll definitely want to hear about it.

Return to the Goblin City, our new Labyrinth collection!

It’s been an exciting week here at Truffle Towers, mainly thanks to the long awaited launch of our brand new, official and exclusive range of Labyrinth T-shirts. It’s something we’ve wanted to be able to represent on the site for what feels like years so getting the opportunity to work closely with the amazing Jim Henson Company to create our very own tribute range has been totally awesome in every way. We’ve been tweaking and perfecting this collection over the last few months so it’s been such a great feeling to finally unleash the tees to all you TruffleShufflers and we are so happy with the fantastic response they’ve all received!

As one of the designers of the range, it was a great experience to return to the fantastical world of the Goblin City and really get under the skin of one of the all-time ultimate 80’s classics! We started with David Bowie and his genius turn as the Goblin King Jareth and we were of course inspired by his outrageous fashion (those skin tight leggings made a particularly big impression…) and the ultra catchy song from the film (Dance Magic Dance!). After playing with lots of ideas, we plumped for a really cool flyer style design for what would clearly be the coolest club night in the world! Check it out below….

We also had to feature Ludo, the bumbling best friend we wish we all had, and of course that cute cheeky worm who was always around to say “Ello!”

Although we knew you guys loved the worm as much as we did, even we were surprised by just how much – this design pretty much sold out after 24 hours on the site and has even been snapped up by the fabulous Una Healy from The Saturdays who even tweeted a pic of her wearing it!

Una looking fab in our Worm tee!

We also had to pay homage to the films strangest pairing, with the slightly twisted love interest between Sarah (the heroine of the film) and Jareth the Goblin King. For this tee we just had to use imagery from the stunning and surreal ballroom dance scene, as that was one of the key points (and my favourite moment) from the whole film. Here’s the video for anyone who needs a recap…

And here are the men’s and ladies designs…

The final tee added this week was the ultra classic Labyrinth movie poster, done in a great vintage distressed style and perfect for anyone who had the same problem as me in trying to choose which one to go for! A real classic, I wore mine for an evening in the pub last week and had 4 people come up to me to show their  appreciation so it’s a real talking point! Don’t know about you but just seeing this movie poster makes me want to see the film again…..

Arriving stylishly late to the party is Hoggle, Sarah’s devious guide to the maze,  who ultimately comes good at the end of the film.  This tee is anything but horrible though and will be available to order on the website very soon so keep your eyes peeled!

With so many interesting characters and magical moments it was a real pleasure to put together this collection.  We can already tell you guys are enjoying the tees and we hope it helps to bring back many great memories of the magical goblin city.  We would love to hear which tees you guys like the most and what are your favourite characters and moments from the film?  Get in touch fellow Labyrinth fans…
