I got sent this picture on Facebook the other day as I was wasting away my Sunday with the hope of someone turning up at my door with a hot Roast dinner in hand to cure my hangover.
It made me laugh as it’s an awesome idea for a tattoo and in an absolutely perfect position but it got me thinking, just how far are my fellow tat fans prepared to go to show their love for their ultimate pop culture icons?
I didn’t have to look hard – appears there are a whole host of fellow nostalgia fans out there who will go pretty damn far in their quest to show their appreciation for all things old school. Here’s a few of my favourites.
This full sleeve is made up mostly of Nintendo characters with Megatron randomly chucked in (apparently he was there before the owner of said tattoo decided to go all out with a full sleeve.) Not being a Mario fan as a kid, I guess I always wanted Megatron to turn up at Bowsers castle and show Mario how you start a ruckus so this definitely floats my boat.
The awesomeness that is the Muppets band in tattoo form – the colours are awesome.
This guy must have totally crossed the streams to get this sick Leg tattoo inspired by the Ghostbusters movie. The detail is unreal.
This leg tattoo pays homage to one of my favourite 80’s movies, Labyrinth. I always thought I was a pretty major Labyrinth fan, now I just feel lame!
And it’s not just the boys getting in on the action..
Yes – this brave lady has just about the entire Alice in Wonderland story inked across the upper half of her body. Now that’s dedication!
It really does look like his skin has been torn off reveling his inner Superhero. A tat too far me thinks although maximum respect for having the balls to pay tribute to Spidey in such a dramatic way!
Let us know if this has got you emptying your bank account and booking in for a full body Spider-man costume tattoo, we’ll definitely want to hear about it.
We’ve just found out about an amazing exhibition that’s happening in far away Los Angeles. ‘Super I Am 8 Bit’ is a group art show where over 100 artists re-imagine their 80’s gaming fantasies, delusions and secret desires via all sorts of media – painting, sculpture, plush, and even some more interactive experimentation. Get ready to see some classic computer game characters as you’ve never seen them before!
Check out this awesome flyer for the event, which features some of my favourite characters like Mario, Pac-Man, Sonic and Mega Man all leaping out into action from underneath Princess Peach’s skirt!
This short video shows one of the past events, and is a glimpse of the kind of goodies that you might expect to see at the new 2011 version. Keep your eyes peeled for a DJ using a GameBoy as a soundsystem!
For more information visit http://iam8bit.com/. It all sounds right up my street, it’s just a shame it’s so far away! Here’s hoping that the exhibition can find it’s way to the UK at some point soon, don’t keep a Nintendo fan boy waiting…
Yep, thats right the guys over at www.happyseamstress.com have designed and made this fantastic Mario Bros. tank top. If seeing these pics has prompted you to try and make one for yourself then your luck is in. Click here and you can download the pattern so you can make your very own.
Enjoy. And remember if you do make one send a pic of it to our Facebook page here.
What can you create with 1500 hours of moving Lego bricks and a camera??
Well, This fantastic ‘legomation’ for a start!! This video takes you back to all things 8-bit. After watching this we think you’ll agree an amazing use of possibly the best toy ever produced. We were blown away with the sheer volume of retro goodies included in this 3.49 minute masterpiece. Everything from Pacman, Mario, Atari, Nintendo NES and more….
