This week, the TruffleShufflers have been racking their brains and seeking inspiration for that well-known Halloween dilemma, what the hell do I carve into my pumpkin???
Yes, for this week’s Friday Facebook competition, everyone at Truffle Towers was given their very own pumpkin with the brief that we had 2 days to design and create a character carving with a retro, 80’s spin.
Well, I must say the end results were very impressive! After a week of highly competitive talk and secretive Internet researching, the portly pumpkins have now been papped and released on our Facebook page!
The name of the game is to LIKE or comment on your favourite to help us decide which TruffleShuffler deserves the title of Pumpkin carving chief! The one with the most votes wins the TruffleShuffler a prize and whoever likes or comments on any pumpkin gets popped into a hat and we’ll randomly select one of you to win a special Halloween treat! You can enter here until 2pm today so please do get invovled!
I got sent this picture on Facebook the other day as I was wasting away my Sunday with the hope of someone turning up at my door with a hot Roast dinner in hand to cure my hangover.
It made me laugh as it’s an awesome idea for a tattoo and in an absolutely perfect position but it got me thinking, just how far are my fellow tat fans prepared to go to show their love for their ultimate pop culture icons?
I didn’t have to look hard – appears there are a whole host of fellow nostalgia fans out there who will go pretty damn far in their quest to show their appreciation for all things old school. Here’s a few of my favourites.
This full sleeve is made up mostly of Nintendo characters with Megatron randomly chucked in (apparently he was there before the owner of said tattoo decided to go all out with a full sleeve.) Not being a Mario fan as a kid, I guess I always wanted Megatron to turn up at Bowsers castle and show Mario how you start a ruckus so this definitely floats my boat.
The awesomeness that is the Muppets band in tattoo form – the colours are awesome.
This guy must have totally crossed the streams to get this sick Leg tattoo inspired by the Ghostbusters movie. The detail is unreal.
This leg tattoo pays homage to one of my favourite 80’s movies, Labyrinth. I always thought I was a pretty major Labyrinth fan, now I just feel lame!
And it’s not just the boys getting in on the action..
Yes – this brave lady has just about the entire Alice in Wonderland story inked across the upper half of her body. Now that’s dedication!
It really does look like his skin has been torn off reveling his inner Superhero. A tat too far me thinks although maximum respect for having the balls to pay tribute to Spidey in such a dramatic way!
Let us know if this has got you emptying your bank account and booking in for a full body Spider-man costume tattoo, we’ll definitely want to hear about it.
If like me, you’re bored to the back teeth of trashy reality T.V then boy have we got a treat for you this weekend! Prepare to cosy up with us TruffleShufflers on the sofa and veg out big time out for a full on old school movie master class.
Yes, I’ve quite literally challenged myself to watch as many retro movies as possible over the coming weekend. Don’t worry – I’ve only chosen movies available on freeview or terrestrial channels so everyone can join in with my square eyed extravaganza.
The amount of awesome movies on the old telly box is quite frankly incredible so here’s my very own old school TV guide for your viewing pleasure!
SATURDAY 8TH OCTOBER
As most normal people don’t get out of bed on a Saturday before Noon, I’m starting with James Bond Live and Let Die which is on ITV4 at 12:30 – 3:00pm!
Here’s a taster of that famous crocodile scene to wet your appetite…
Complete with the awesome Paul McCartney theme tune that later was made even more awesome by Guns N Roses, the legend that is Roger Moore and the weird voodoo stuff, it’s the perfect wake up call to start off the movie marathon.
OK so you’ve got half an hour to grab yourself a cup of tea and a quick bite of late lunch in preparation for the next in line, that modern day classic Men in Black which is on 5* at 3:30 – 5:25.
Join Will smith and Tommy Lee Jones as they hunt down the scum of the universe – great for all the family too!
You might have to miss the last 30 mins though because next up, I’ve found a proper 80’s classic which really can’t be missed! It’s only flipping Brewster’s Millions which is on ITV4 from 5:00pm-7:00pm
For anyone who hasn’t seen it (really??!) the comedy legend that is Richard Prior has to spend 30 million dollars in just one month or he’ll lose get his inheritance. Cue loads of laughs and plenty of feel good moments – it really is a bloody brilliant film and my pick of the day!
Time for a tea and toilet break as you’ve got 30 minutes before the next instalment of my movie marathon which is the 2009 remake of Star Trek, on from 7:30pm-10pm on Channel 4.
For a more authentic experience, we recommend slipping into one of our Star Trek Dressing Gowns to prepare yourself for going boldly where no man has gone before!
Live long and prosper folks as we reckon that after all the movie mayhem, it’s definitely time for bed (although if you do feel like staying up, the cracking Eddie Murphy Raw is on Film 4 at 11:05pm-12:50am.)
SUNDAY 8TH OCTOBER
Never fear though as when you wakey wakey on Sunday – you’ve got a tonne of pure 80’s gold to look forward to!
We’ve got a breakfast treat for you as we’re starting with War games, an early 80’s classic which is on from 11:00am-1:20pm on ITV1
The film follows David Lightman (the awesome Matthew Broderick), a young hacker who unwittingly accesses WOPR, a United States military supercomputer programmed to predict possible outcomes of nuclear war. Lightman gets WOPR to run a nuclear war simulation, originally believing it to be a computer game but it causes a national nuclear missile scare and nearly starts World War III. Definitely worth waking up early (well early-ish) for!
Most excitingly of all though, on channel 5 from 2:00-4:00pm, you’ve only got The Goonies to enjoy! Perfectly timed to coincide with the Sunday Roast, prepare for some proper family fun with Chunk and the gang! And don’t forget to join in for the Truffle Shuffle scene in our honour…..
If like me you were tranform-erly (is that a word?) neglected as a child because ones parents realised Transformers was a massive marketing ploy by Hasbro to get kids to buy toys and therefore your only transformer was a cheap market knock off ‘Santa’ got you for Xmas (I never realised Santa was a tight wad), then you’ll be pretty excited about the upcoming Transformers dark of the moon movie which is released THIS WEEK!
I know for a fact I am. After watching the first 2 movies without blinking once, I can confirm they were every adult Transformers fans dream (well mine anyway!) I swear I was clinically blinded by all the explosions followed closely by a near motorcycle accident on the way home because I was willing my bike to turn into a giant robot (in case you were wondering, I wanted it to be a decepticon which I’d name Bones and we’d be awesome together OK.)
Therefore, I’m expecting more explosions, lasers, guns, giant robots and a few more explosions followed closely by bleeding eyeballs and fits of epilepsy when I leave the cinema for the third instalment of the hugely popular franchise. If that happens, I’ll be a happy boy! If it doesn’t, those Autobots had better watch out.
