Shiver me timbers! Raft Race Results Are In!

So as you may know if you read our blog post last week, this Sunday, the TruffleShuffle team took part in the Portishead Raft Race!

The aim was to raise as much money as possible for the RNLI Portishead Lifeboat and have a bit of fun at the same time.

Well you'll be glad to hear we succeeded on both counts and we were thrilled to come away with two prizes, one for 'Best Designed Raft' and the second (and most important in our opinion) for most money raised by a team.

We raised a whopping £3,241 for the Portishead Lifeboat and we'd like to say a huge thank to you to everyone who sponsored us. We really can't tell you how much we and the RNLI appreciate every penny.

Now for the bad news, despite the best efforts of our valiant crew, we came second to last in the actual raft race! Although our raft looked pretty damn awesome (even if we do say so ourselves,) it turned out our home made paddles were pretty useless and the whole raft was pretty wobbly once in the water; cue plenty of capsizes and lots of wet sailors. Shiver me timbers - quite literally!

Doing our bit for charity.....

The TruffleShuffle team are taking part in our local Raft Race this weekend to help raise much needed funds for the RNLI Portishead Lifeboat .

Our MD's son was the youngest person to have ever been rescued by the fantastic team of volunteers at just 6 weeks old so it's a cause which is very close to our hearts. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, their lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved at least 140,000 lives and volunteers make up 95% of the charity, including 4,600 volunteer lifeboat crew members and 3,000 volunteer shore crew. The RNLI needs to raise a whopping £335,000 every day to run the 235 lifeboat stations and 163 lifeguarded beaches so we're hoping to raise as much as possible to support this fantastic charity.

We're going for a Goonies theme for our raft and are hoping to come up with something One Eyed Willie would be proud of (pics to follow soon!)

We'll be battling our way across the lake and around the island to the finishing line and with prizes awarded for the winning rafts as well as the “Best Dressed Raft”, “Best Designed Raft” and “Most Sponsorship Raised”, we've gotta win something right? If not - our MD will be walking the plank!

If you'd like to show your support for this fantastic charity and help us on our way to raising our target of £2,500, please visit our Just Giving page here. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Holidays Are Coming - Update! And Happy Christmas Jumper Day.

Hey guys,

Lots of you supported our designer James' recent blog post regarding our Holidays Are Coming Jumper so we just wanted to give you all an update!

For those of you who missed it, we found a very similar jumper to the one we designed available for sale at www.Boohoo.com and so James blogged about it. We were totally overwhelmed by all the support from you guys - our lovely customers and readers so a huge, huge thanks to everyone who got in touch.

BooHoo got in touch the same day the blog was posted and asked us to remove our original blog post while they investigated which we duly did (in case you wondered why it had disappeared.) BooHoo said they would remove the item from sale while they checked what had happened at their end.

We've now resolved things with Boohoo and as a gesture of goodwill, Boohoo has agreed to pay us a royalty which we will be donating to Save The Childrens Christmas Jumper Day.

They have also agreed to send the remaining stock to a charity of our choice so we will be donating these to the amazing One25 - a Bristol-based charity, specialising in enabling women to break free from street sex-work, addiction and other life-controlling issues and build new, independent lives.

Movember Competition! xoxo

We moustache you a question!

The start of November has arrived! What does this mean? MOVEMBER! For anyone unsure about what this is - it's an amazing month long campaign involving the growing of moustaches to raise awareness of prostate cancer and other male cancer initiatives. By encouraging men to get involved, Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths. Besides getting an annual check-up, the Movember Foundation encourages men to be aware of any family history of cancer, and to adopt a more healthy lifestyle.

Throughout the month of November, TruffleShuffle will be running a competition, involving all your best Movember pictures!

All you have to do is take a pic of you rocking your moustache and send it to competitions@truffleshuffle.co.uk. We'll then upload it to a Facebook album - the picture with the most 'likes' will land the owner £50 to his Movember account, along with a TruffleShuffle gift voucher! The picture can be as serious or as silly as you like - and of course, if you're rocking a TruffleShuffle tee it can only work in your favour huh?

The 80's, and the TruffleShuffle shelves are filled with inspiration...

TruffleShuffle Sponsors Louise & Abi's Bristol Half Marathon

We were contacted by Louise Meek and Abigail Bannatyne, who had decided to take on this year's Bristol Half Marathon and as a local Bristol company we offered to sponsor the girls! Lou (right) and Abi have been training hard for months and as the race day is nearly here we thought we introduce our two crazy brave runners!

Lou and Abi have chosen to raise money for 3 charities close to them, Make A Wish, Lupus Research and BRACE - you can read a bit about each of the charities and the work they do below:Make-A-Wish Foundation UK grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses. The charity was founded in the UK in 1986 and since then we have granted over 6,500 magical wishes to children and young people aged between three and seventeen years old. There are over 20,000 children in the UK living with a life-threatening illness and we believe that every one of them deserves to experience the magic of a Make-A-Wish wish. Anyone can refer a child to us. This year alone, around 1,200 children will turn to Make-A-Wish to have their special wish granted. A small and dedicated team of professional wishgranters works alongside hundreds of volunteers to turn our children’s wishes into reality. Whether a wish is to be a princess or a train driver for the day, own the latest TV or computer equipment, meet a favourite celebrity or just enjoy some special time away from home with their family, a wish come true brings so much to a child’s life and provides memories that last a lifetime for the whole family.

Make A Wish is an amazing charity that gives children with terminal illnesses one last wish in their life from meeting JLS to going to Disneyland... This is such a great cause and very close to Abi's heart.

LUPUS UK is the only National Registered Charity supporting people with Lupus. Lupus is a chronic incurable autoimmune disease that can affect the joints and almost every major organ in the body, including the heart, kidneys, skin, lungs, and brain. With Lupus, the immune system, which is designed to protect against infection, mistakenly attacks the body’s own tissues and organs causing inflammation and damage in the joints, muscles and organs.

One of Lou's closest friends has this illness, and she is a true inspiration. Lupus needs so much more research and injections of cash and we are proud to be raising some much needed funds for them.

BRACE raises money to fund research into Alzheimers and other dementias. It's about hope - the hope, based on solid science, that we will understand, control and finally beat dementia. Dementia is a physical illness of the brain, but the human experience of it is loss of memory and ability to cope, destruction of personality and loss of relationship. It is more common than is generally realised, affecting 1 in 50 people aged 65-70 and as many as 1 in 5 over 80. In rare cases, it can strike young adults and even children. It is truly a profound form of suffering. That is why a charity that provides hope is essential. BRACE is a West Country charity, based in Bristol and currently funding scientists in the same region. However, dementia is a problem for the whole human race and the benefits of the research are therefore global.
