10 Things You Didn't Know About...Star Wars!

Like a lot of movie lovers, Star Wars is the jewel in our crown when it comes to our cult film collection. With so many hours well spent watching (and acting out!) the amazing cinematic light saber scenes, it's become one of our biggest movie loves and has really taken the world by storm from it's beginnings way back in 1977.

If you're as big a fans of these classic flicks then you may think you know everything about this rich universe — but there's always more to learn! Whether you'll store these nuggets of intergalactic information for use down the pub, or just keep them locked away safe in the knowledge that you've expanded your Star Wars mind, sit back and enjoy!

1) When production began, the movie was titled "Adventures of Luke Starkiller, as Taken From The Journal Of The Whills, Sage1: The Star Wars

2) Darth Vader was actually a mixture of three people, James Earl Jones was the voice, Sebastian Shaw played the face, and David Prowse acted as the body.

3) Filming of The Empire Strikes Back had to halt for two weeks due to a wind surfing competition in Australia the had become an annual tradtition of sorts for Lucas, and he refused to miss.

4) You can see Boba Fett's face without the helmet in Empire Strikes Back. Jeremy Bulloch, who plays Boba Fett, also plays another role in ESB: Imperial Lieutenant Sheckil, who captures Princess Leia during her attempted escape on Bespin.

5) The voice of Yoda was provided by Frank Oz, who is also the voice of Muppets' Miss Piggy.

6) The Chewbacca Character is based on George Luscas' dog, Indiana. The Dog is also the inspiration for the name Indiana Jones

7) Han Solo was originally a green-skinned alien with gills. He would have been an undercover operative, instead of a smuggler and all-around rogue. And apparently, this version of Han went beyond early drafts where he only had a minor role — because at least at one point, Lucas was considered making green-skinned, gilly Han into Luke and Leia's friend for much of the film.

8 ) Only Lucas knew about the iconic line "Luke, I am your father!" During filming the actors had a different script and when the line was read it confused and outraged the actors and film crew, and Lucas had to concoct a lengthy lie about a time-travel based Return of the Jedi.

9) It took as many as 10 puppeteers using both hands to operate Jabba The Hutt.

10) George Lucas killed Chewbacca. The most famous Wookiee died off in a novel called Vector Prime by R.A. Salvatore. Nobody particularly wanted to kill off Chewbacca, but the authors and editors of the Expanded Universe novels wanted to kill off one of the well-known characters, because they felt as though nobody was taking the books seriously any more.
