The Weekly Retro Movie Rundown 14!

Happy weekend everybody - The sun has got his hat on, hip hip hip hooray, the sun has got his hat on and he's coming out to play! I do like the idea of the sun wearing a hat but why does he need one?!

There are a multitude of cinematic pleasures available for your viewing pleasure this weekend. Like an ocean full of fabulous flamboyantly coloured tropical fish, we're merely bobbing gently along with the current sat comfortably in one of those inflatable chairs with the cup holders - in one hand, sipping through a straw a lovely cold margarita with an umbrella in it and in the other a fishing net ready to pluck out the beautiful retro movie goodness. Olympics! What Olympics?!

Whatever you get up to this weekend enjoy yourselves and have a happy retro weekend :-)

Guest Post! The Caped Crusader: Yep it’s Batman...

I was VERY tempted to name this blog post  “na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na naaa Batman!” because as you have probably realised by now that’s how mature I am. But there’s something about superheroes such as Batman that bring out that childish side to you. We all know that the idea of a man getting superpowers after being bitten by a radioactive spider or a man going around dressed as a bat is quite ridiculous yet we’re still enticed and get stupidly excited about this fantasy world.

Perfect example of this is of course ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ which is the third and final instalment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

I’ve never seen so many people- of all ages-get so excited by one film. It is definitely a buzz that only certain movies bring. After all, superheroes are amazing. Growing up I used to love watching superhero films such as Superman and Batman. Even TV series such as Wonder Woman and don’t laugh...Captain Planet.

Batman is the one superhero that really takes me back to my childhood. Forget the films; I always preferred Adam West and Burt Ward as the Dynamic Duo in the TV series. I can remember watching the TV series during our summer holidays on Channel 4 around 1.30pm! At the time they were so gripping and totally believable. I never questioned the convenient gadgets (there are 100 flights of stairs and the lifts not working...oh wait we can use the Batjet which is conveniently placed in the Batmobile) or the fact that nobody could tell that it was Bruce Wayne as Batman.  Who can forget the “Bam! Crash! Wallops!”?

It was this cheesy side of Batman that I preferred growing up and despite watching most of the Batman films my allegiance was always to the 1960’s caped crusader. But then Christian Bale happened.

Man he’s beautiful. But forget his beautiful face for a second if you can...it was his dark and suave Batman that got me gripped. Christopher Nolan’s Batman was a far cry from the ones I was used to- and I liked it!

Get Tony Stark AKA Robert Downey Jr's Black Sabbath T-Shirt As Seen In The Avengers Movie

In 1970, British heavy metal band Black Sabbath released a song called Iron Man and although it was not inspired in any way by the Marvel Comics armour-clad superhero, it was an obvious choice for the soundtrack of the 2008 movie starring Robert Downey Jr and can be heard over the closing credits.

Taking the connection even further, Tony Stark AKA Downey Jr is permanently sewed into a Black Sabbath T-shirt when he's not wearing his Iron Man suit in the Avengers Assemble movie and after numerous requests, you can now get the very same tee right here at TruffleShuffle.com.

Men's Black Sabbath Tour T-Shirt £19.99 Robert Downey Jr Tony Stark Avengers Assemble

This wicked Black Sabbath tee '78 Tour design has the real look of an original, vintage tee and is a bargain for any Superhero fans at just £19.99!

 Men's Black Sabbath Tour T-Shirt £19.99

The Weekly Retro Movie Rundown 12!

Oh my stars! The days get longer and the weeks get shorter but the weekend remains the same - full of  nostalgic cinematic retroactive joyfulness!

We totally enjoyed “Raiders Of The Lost Ark” last weekend so we’re dead happy to see that “Temple Of Doom” is on this weekend. There’s a real mixed bag of treats in store including a randy British spy, giant green people, an alien and the Batman, “Ever dance with the devil in the pale moon light?” now I love Batman but I still don’t know what that line means or why I remember it, anyone help me out with this?!

Have a happy retro Weekend Folks :-)

My Top Five 80s Movie Intros...

1. Top Gun

Top Gun has one of the best 80’s movie opening scenes. It's got F14 jets taking off, the Top Gun anthem, "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins playing and then straight into the action with Maverick and Goose.

In the film, Charlie’s old man date was the real life "Viper", Pete Pettigrew. He was a Top Gun instructor and retired Navy pilot, and served as the technical consultant on the film.

2. Rocky 4

I always loved the way Rocky 4 started; it’s basically just a re-cap of what happened at the end of 3, but starts with two giant boxing gloves crashing together and then cutting to the recap, and it has "Eye Of The Tiger" playing!

According to Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren and Carl Weathers really did not get along and got into an altercation during filming. Lundgren threw Weathers across the ring before it was broken up (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089927/trivia).

3. Transfomers the movie 1986
