The Weekly Retro Movie Rundown 13!

Hooray! It’s our favourite time of the week again so shake out your weekday blues, kick off your working shoes, strap yourself into a comfy chair and join us on a journey of retro discovery and awesomeness as we gently navigate you through a nostalgic landscape chock to the block with cinematic wonders! Shift into cruise control, turn up the air con and roll the seat back cos it’s gonna be a damn nice adventure!

SATURDAY 21st JULY

Adventures in Babysitting (1987) Channel 5 1:20pm-3:15pm (1 hour 55 minutes)

A teenager agrees to look after her neighbour's children when her date stands her up. Settling down for a night of TV, she receives a phone call from a friend asking to be rescued from a city bus station. Unable to leave the children alone, she decides to take them with her, unaware of what lies ahead. Comedy adventure, starring Elisabeth Shue, Maia Brewton, Keith Coogan and Anthony Rap.

Mrs Doubtfire (1993) 5* 4:45pm-7:05pm (2 hours 20 minutes)

A struggling actor's ambitious, no-nonsense wife throws him out and demands a divorce. Desperate to spend time with his children, he puts his talents to good use by donning drag and posing as a Scottish housekeeper to get a job looking after them. Comedy, starring Robin Williams, Sally Field, Pierce Brosnan, Harvey Fierstein and Mara Wilson.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) BBC1 London 6:30pm-8:25pm (1 hour 55 minutes)

The intrepid archaeologist sets out to find his estranged father who has gone missing while searching for the Holy Grail. Once reunited, father and son team up to finish the task and locate the sacred relic before the Nazis get their hands on it. Action adventure sequel directed by Steven Spielberg, starring Harrison Ford, Sean Connery, Alison Doody, River Phoenix, Julian Glover and Denholm Elliott.

Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990) TCM 7:00pm-9:00pm (2 hours)

Cute furball Gizmo is reunited with his human friends Billy and Kate, who now work in the New York offices of an eccentric tycoon. However, it is not long before Gizmo has spawned a new generation of murderous carnivores, who quickly overrun the building - and a genetics lab where they produce even more startling mutations. Joe Dante's comedy sequel, starring Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates, John Glover and Christopher Lee.

Footloose (1984) Film4 6:55pm-9:00pm (2 hours 5 minutes)

A rebellious, hip-swinging student from the city moves to a small religious community, where he instantly clashes with an old-school fire-and-brimstone preacher - who has banned dancing and rock 'n' roll because he considers them immoral. Drama, starring Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer, John Lithgow, Chris Penn, Dianne Wiest and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Batman Returns (1992) ITV2 12:45am-3:00am (2 hours 15 minutes)

The masked hero returns to face the Penguin, a grotesque crime boss dwelling in the sewers who conspires with a corrupt businessman to make himself mayor. When the tycoon tries to kill his secretary, she returns as vengeful vigilante Catwoman, who soon forms an intense relationship with the dark knight in both their costumed and real identities. Tim Burton's comic-book adventure sequel, starring Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer.

SUNDAY 22nd JULY

Short Circuit 2 (1988) 5* 1:20pm-3:35pm (2 hours 15 minutes)

Manic mechanoid Johnny Five meets an old friend in New York City and embarks on a fact-finding tour - but ends up entangled in a series of escapades culminating in a bank robbery. Sci-fi comedy sequel, starring Fisher Stevens, Michael McKean, Cynthia Gibb and Jack Weston, with the voice of Tim Blaney.

Cool Runnings (1993) ITV2 3:25pm-5:25pm (2 hours)

A sprinter fails to qualify for the Jamaican Olympic squad, but refuses to give up his dream. Learning that a former US bobsleigh coach is living nearby, he seizes the chance to shine in an entirely different sport, and cajoles three of his friends to join him in training for the 1988 Winter Olympics in the far less tropical environment of Canada. Fact-based comedy with John Candy, Leon, Doug E Doug and Malik Yoba.

Crocodile Dundee II (1988) E4 8:00pm-10:10pm (2 hours 10 minutes)

The rugged Australian adventurer sets out to save his reporter girlfriend from New York drug dealers. Having rescued her from their clutches, he realises they will soon be coming after him - so he decides to even the odds by luring them to the Outback for a final showdown. Comedy adventure sequel, starring Paul Hogan, Linda Kozlowski, John Meillon and Charles S Dutton.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) Comedy Central 9:00pm-11:05pm (2 hours 5 minutes)

A cocky teenager plays truant from school and spends the day dragging his girlfriend and a reluctant friend into all manner of crazy adventures in the big city - while the school's dean of students vows to stop at nothing to prove the youngster is faking illness. Comedy, starring Matthew Broderick, Mia Sara, Alan Ruck, Jennifer Grey, Jeffrey Jones and Charlie Sheen.

As this looks like a great line up for the weekend I’m considering going into hibernation mode and watching everything on offer! Typical just as the weather looks proper nice this weekend (might have to do a rain dance), please don’t blame me if it’s wet near you, I really just want to stay in and watch films! ;-)
