The Weekly Retro Movie Rundown 70!

Severed head on a tortoise! It has to be the Weekend!

So in a dark room under the flickering glow of an old box shaped television knelt on a slightly worn out rug, hands clenched around a joy stick as the noise of a loading Zx Spectrum surrounds us, let us be your 1980's super gamer as we prepare to 1Up for mega movie awesomeness, we'll zap our way through baddies with retro cinematic greatness all for an impressive high score and celluloid wonder.

SATURDAY 5th October

Flatliners (1990) Sky Movies Sci-fi & Horror 1:30pm-3:40pm (2 hours 10 minutes)

Five medical students conduct dangerous experiments to discover whether there is an afterlife by electronically inducing a near-deathlike state and then bringing about resuscitation at the critical moment. However, when they venture into real-death experiences, the unwittingly unleash supernatural phenomena linked to their past misdeeds. Thriller, with Julia Roberts, Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin and Oliver Platt.

Groundhog Day (1993)Sky1 9:00pm-11:00pm (2 hours)

An obnoxious TV weatherman reporting on a small town's annual festival finds himself caught in a bizarre time loop, and is forced to relive the same day over and over again. While at first he tries to exploit his predicament, he is ultimately driven to mend his ways and adopt a less cynical attitude. Comedy, starring Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell, Chris Elliott and Stephen Tobolowsky.

Snatch (2000) Comedy Central 10:00pm-12:00am (2 hours)

An unlicensed boxing promoter and his dim-witted sidekick convince an Irish gypsy battler to step in for their injured fighter, but find themselves drawn into a match-fixing racket. Meanwhile, the loot from a diamond heist goes missing, leading to bloody conflict between Russian gangsters and a Jewish mob. Guy Ritchie's comedy drama, with Jason Statham, Brad Pitt, Benicio Del Toro, Mike Reid, Jason Flemyng, Alan Ford and Vinnie Jones.

An elite military team on a top-secret mission in the jungles of Central America encounters a merciless alien hunter, which starts to pick the commandos off one by one and skin its human prey alive. Sci-fi thriller, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Bill Duke, Sonny Landham, Jesse Ventura and Shane Black.

Innerspace (1987) Channel 5 2:30pm-4:50pm (2 hours 20 minutes)

A Navy test pilot is shrunk in a ground-breaking scientific experiment, but instead of being injected into a laboratory rabbit, the tiny specimen accidentally winds up inside a hypochondriac supermarket worker. As he tries to find a way out, criminals come after the unlikely duo in search of the secret of the miniaturising technology. Sci-fi comedy, starring Dennis Quaid, Martin Short, Meg Ryan, Kevin McCarthy, Fiona Lewis and Vernon Wells.

White Fang (1991) 5* 4:50pm-7:00pm (2 hours 10 minutes)

A prospector sets off for Alaska during the gold rush, and along the way he encounters a wolf-dog being cruelly treated by its owner. He sets the animal free and tames it, gaining a constant companion for his perilous journey through the wilderness. Adventure, based on Jack London's novel, starring Ethan Hawke, Klaus Maria Brandauer.

Independence Day (1996) Film4 6:15pm-9:00pm (2 hours 45 minutes)

A fleet of huge flying saucers launches a devastating and unprovoked attack on Earth. As survivors try to flee the seemingly unstoppable alien invaders, the courageous US president, an ace pilot and a computer genius come up with a plan to take the fight to the enemy and save the human race. Roland Emmerich's sci-fi adventure, starring Will Smith, Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Mary McDonnell, Randy Quaid, Robert Loggia and Harry Connick Jr.

South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (1999) ITV4 11:00pm-12:40am (1 hour 40 minutes)

The crusading grown-ups of the Colorado town lead America into war against Canada in a bid to eradicate bad language from TV. The four young heroes set out to bring peace to the world, but have to battle a fearsome alliance between Satan and Saddam Hussein. Animated musical comedy, with the voices of Trey Parker and Matt Stone, as well as George Clooney, Eric Idle and Isaac Hayes.
