The Weekly Retro Movie Rundown 215

Sweet potato pie and peas! Another retro movie weekend is here and..well....we're can't bloomin' wait!

Like one of the most passionate and experience drone flyers in the land, we'll set our little bundle of tech up into the skies to capture the world from above. Whizzing around like a well trained hawk, we'll quickly buzz our way back to mother earth before rushing with excitement to see what wonderful images it has captured.

SATURDAY 1st OCTOBER

Napoleon Dynamite (2004) Film4 11:00am-1:00pm (2 hours)

A socially inept high-school student and his lonely unemployed brother find their eccentric home life thrown into upheaval when their meddling uncle comes to stay. The teenage oddball tries to make the best of his changing circumstances, while putting all his skills to the task of helping his new best friend win the class presidency. Comedy, starring Jon Heder, Efren Ramirez and Haylie Duff.

All Quiet on the Western Front (1979) ITV4 1:05pm-3:05pm (2 hours)

The stark realities of battle are revealed to a group of German teenagers who volunteer for action during the First World War. Drama remake, starring Richard Thomas, Ernest Borgnine and Donald Pleasence.

Seven Years in Tibet (1997) Film4 6:20pm-9:00pm (2 hours 40 minutes)

An arrogant Austrian mountaineer tries to become the first to conquer a peak in India that has claimed the lives of 11 previous climbers. However, the outbreak of the Second World War leaves him languishing in a PoW camp. He escapes and ends up in the holy city of Lhasa, where he befriends the 14-year-old Dalai Lama and learns the meaning of inner peace. Fact-based drama, starring Brad Pitt, David Thewlis and BD Wong.

Kindergarten Cop (1990) ITV2 7:30pm-9:50pm

A tough detective is forced to pose as a preschool teacher in a bid to capture a drug dealer whose son is one of the pupils. However, his biggest challenge turns out to be controlling a class full of five-year-olds. Comedy, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Penelope Ann Miller, Linda Hunt, Pamela Reed and Richard Tyson.

Fun Fact: During an off day from filming, Arnold Schwarzenegger flew to Los Angeles to film the teaser trailer for Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991).

Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991) ITV4 8:00pm-10:00pm

The would-be heavy metal superstars face the Grim Reaper as they try to reclaim their souls from Hell, return to the land of the living and stop their robot doppelgangers from changing history. Along the way, they must also master their instruments, so they can triumph at the Battle of the Bands. Comedy sequel, starring Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter, William Sadler, Joss Ackland and George Carlin.

Die Hard 2 (1990) E4 9:00pm-11:25pm (2 hours 25 minutes)

Tough cop John McClane arrives at an airport to pick up his wife, but finds himself plunged into a bloody life-or-death struggle. He must battle terrorists who have seized control of the terminal as part of a campaign to secure the release of a convicted drug baron. Action thriller sequel, starring Bruce Willis, Bonnie Bedelia, William Sadler, Franco Nero and William Atherton.

The Parent Trap (1961) Film4 1:00pm-3:45pm (2 hours 45 minutes)

When twins sisters meet for the first time at summer camp, they decide it is high time their estranged parents got back together again, and hatch an ingenious plan to reunite them by swapping places with each other. Disney comedy, starring Hayley Mills in a dual role as both sisters, alongside Maureen O'Hara, Brian Keith and Leo G Carroll.

Fun Fact: In the shot where Brian Keith trips on the chair, he fell so hard, he cracked a rib, and kept right on with the scene. Wow!

A Knight's Tale (2001) Channel 5 2:30pm-5:05pm 2 hours 35 minutes)

A poverty-stricken squire spies an opportunity to make his dreams come true when his employer dies. He takes his place as a knight, launching himself on the road to riches by competing in jousting tournaments, but his ruse is jeopardised by a dastardly nobleman. Comedy adventure, starring Heath Ledger, Paul Bettany, Mark Addy, Shannyn Sossamon and Rufus Sewell.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991) Dave 4:20pm-7:00pm (2 hours 40 minutes)

An English nobleman returns home from the crusades to find his father has been murdered and the local people are repressed by the tyrannical rule of the Sheriff of Nottingham. Branded an outlaw, he recruits a group of bandits to fight for justice and protect the downtrodden. Action adventure, starring Kevin Costner, Alan Rickman, Morgan Freeman and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio.

Planet of the Apes (2001) 7:40pm-10:00pm

An astronaut crash-lands on a strange planet and is captured and enslaved by the ruling race of highly intelligent apes. Luckily, he is helped by a sympathetic chimpanzee - but then discovers a shocking secret. Remake of the 1960s sci-fi adventure, directed by Tim Burton and starring Mark Wahlberg, Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Roth, and featuring a cameo appearance from the original film's star Charlton Heston.

Fun Fact: In order to star in the film, Tim Roth declined the role of Professor Severus Snape in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001).

Cliffhanger (1993) ITV4 10:00pm-12:15am

A retired mountain rescue expert is drawn into a battle of wits with a psychopathic criminal searching for a $100million fortune lost in the Rockies - and puts his life on the line as he negotiates the treacherous mountains in a bid to stay one step ahead of the crook. Action thriller, starring Sylvester Stallone, John Lithgow, Janine Turner and Michael Rooker.
